I just recently came back to Anytime Fitness and number one love the remodel but number two really enjoy working out with the trainer Dan he really cares about your progress and does a good job to make sure you are staying on track with your fitness goals!
Having recently moved to NC from FL, I checked out a few fitness centers, all within 6 miles of my house. I found Anytime Fitness works best for me, my needs and my time allowance for 'working out'. The staff at Durham AF are super nice and informative as well as flexible in sharing their time. I like the facility layout and the equipment that is available. I am yet to make acquaintance with any other members, but in passing they all seem very pleasant. My one concern is the restroom facilities, (no locker rooms) the members do not seem to care how they leave the restroom after use and the staff really do not have time to clean up after usage by those who do not care. Dirty toilets and paper on the floors, I have yet to try to use a shower room, hopefully somewhat better there, not holding my breath. All in all, I feel good about becoming a member at Anytime Fitness Durham.
I highly recommend Dan as a trainer. I knew I wanted to work with him when I noticed that he not only cares about his personal clients, but also every member in this gym, and it shows. Dan's not only incredibly skilled and knowledgeable in areas of fitness and training, but also genuinely invested in helping each client achieve their goals. Dan is friendly, patient, and supportive, and he knows exactly when to push you to get the best results. I’ve already seen great progress toward my fitness goals within just the first month of working with him!
This was our go to gym since signing up for membership last year as athletes who need a gym home during the off season and to do rehab work while in season. We really loved the place and the people who work there, plus the ability to hit the gym wherever we were traveling with the team. But since the renovation we’ve had to start going to a different location because while we didn’t get new equipment we did get a gym that’s now so disorganized, cramped, and difficult to use that it’s not worth trying to use anymore. First off, if you need to use a mobility aid like a wheelchair or walker this place is now completely inaccessible to you. Machines are so shoved together randomly that you end up having to turn sideways and watch where you’re going because you will run into things otherwise. Some machines are so poorly placed you’re literally butt to butt with other people trying to use them. There isn’t any new equipment, and the squat racks are now either shoved back in a corner or stuck randomly by the bathroom leaving you zero working room. Got rid of the platform too so while they kept the trap bar and extra bars, good luck finding somewhere to use them. The cable machine with the pull up bar in the middle is so close to the mirror that you can’t do anything requiring more than a couple feet of space, and you’re always watching out for the legs of people doing pull ups- which is a whole other issue as it is inevitable that someone is going to kick and shatter the mirror. And they moved the turf space into the middle of everything, which sure it’s larger but you can hardly use it because everyone is standing on it to do curls or use the weight bars because they’ve made it so cramped that’s their only option. I have no idea what they were thinking with this renovation but they took a small but very usable gym and turned it into something that isn’t accessible and is hardly usable for anyone not wanting to use the machines and even then it’s questionable. Super bummed to lose our favorite spot and have to drive 20 minutes just to get a good workout in.
I got the Veteran's deal. This is what it means: you can cancel anytime. I did cancel March. It is now July. They have charged me every 2 weeks since then. Their Veteran's deal: Screw Veteran's! Thanks. Let me try for the 5th time to cancel. I'm sure they'll reply and say I'm not in the system. Please do. I have screenshots of the charges. DO YOU WANT TO TAKE THIS CHANCE WITH YOUR MONEY?!?
