Like the banana cinnamon bread. It’s a side option on the menu but it’s more like a starter or dessert. The burrata was fresh. Both pasta were too creamy or thick to my liking.
Decent place but overrated. We came here for dinner on a weekday, we started off with the meatballs, which were good but nothing spectacular, don't think it was worth the price and I wouldn't get it again. For pastas, we got the lamb ragu and the bigoli nero (squid ink). The pasta itself was cooked very well, but the lamb ragu tasted too strong which covered up other flavours. The squid ink pasta was well done. The service was very good but the restaurant was very cramped, with a limited selection for appetizers and desserts, it seems like their sister restaurant Gigi's would have been a better choice as it has a better selection and environment.
Went to Ask for Luigi on my last night in Vancouver. The place was full on a Saturday. I was told it’s a Michelin recommended restaurant. The Arugula with Fennel salad was top notch and so was the Mussels, Nduja Sausage, Fennel and Pomodoro. Light, perfectly seasoned broth with fresh, plump mussels. The special of beets was just okay. There weren’t enough walnuts which gave the dish so much flavor and texture. For our main, we had the Bigoli Nero which was excellent (pasta was cooked perfectly) and the Canpanele and Lamb Ragu (too salty, possibly after the sauce reduced). Service was fabulous but the menu was limited.
Such a fantastic experience here — the perfect place a more intimate small group dinner. Each dish was absolute perfection — you can truly taste the quality and love put into each of them. The portion sizes were adequate and the meal itself didn’t feel super heavy which was nice. We had started with the arugula salad and cauliflower. Both had such incredible flavors. For our pastas we went with the lamb ragu, braised beef ragu bianco, and the truffle special. We had absolutely no notes — they were each to die for and it was impossible to pick a favorite. Both desserts were also incredible — the candied orange flavors of the olive oil cake paired with the rich chocolate was a huge hit. If you’re even debating on which to get, just get both I promise it’s worth it. The service here is also unmatched. We had briefly mentioned that we were in a bit of a rush and the server kindly let the kitchen know. As a result they had us out of there within an hour even despite having three courses! Couldn’t recommend this place enough — so excited to return and try some more of their signature dishes! Definitely reserve in advance or plan on showing up a bit before opening.
If you’re planning a food-focused trip to downtown Vancouver, this spot is an absolute must-visit. Rather than an expensive, showy atmosphere, it has the cozy feel of a small, neighborhood gem. The servers are friendly without being overbearing. They’re knowledgeable about the menu and wine pairings, and instead of pushing pricey bottles, they recommend wines that suit both the dishes and each guest’s tastes. The pasta was cooked perfectly—silky yet pleasantly springy—and the sauce complemented it beautifully without being heavy or cloying. Every dish we ordered was excellent. One regret: we went during brunch, so the menu was more limited and we couldn’t try the mussel dishes we had our eye on. That was truly a shame. For dessert, the olive cake was the best cake I’ve had in recent memory. We visited for our anniversary, and the mix of reasonable prices, fine-dining-quality food, and exceptional service made it feel like a European getaway. This place is a true hidden gem in downtown Vancouver.
