Just completed a 6 week hand-building class with Jennifer and I loved it so much, I purchased a membership! Jennifer creates such a lighthearted, encouraging atmosphere and covers a wide range of techniques. My classmates and I acquired fundamental skills to create a ton of cool stuff and I'm so stoked to make more. The studio itself is really special: Jennifer and all the other artists bring the best vibes and I look forward to it every time I go!
I took the semester wheel classes with Jennifer (the studio owner), and the experience was absolutely amazing! Her instructions were clear and easy to follow, and she provided personalized support throughout the class, which made a huge difference in my learning. I felt encouraged and inspired every step of the way. Now, I’m a part-time studio member, and I couldn’t be happier. The studio provides everything you need as a potter-from tools to materials-and the space itself is so warm and welcoming. The community here is just wonderful; everyone is friendly, supportive, and passionate about ceramics. I highly recommend taking a wheel class or becoming a member if you’re interested in pottery!
This was the first time I have ever made pottery in my life and what a wonderful experience! Jennifer was so friendly and encouraging throughout the entire class. Our group decided to try the wheel, but her simple yet thorough instructions were more than helpful. Plus there was plenty of clay if our first spin at the wheel didn't go so well. And most of us definitely needed a do over! And for those who didn't like the wheel, the table was open for hand molding pottery. We all got to create a unique piece and I can't wait to pick them up soon!
We booked a one-day session to make our own sake glasses and had such a fun time. Jennifer was an awesome instructor, super friendly and made everything really easy to follow. We’re already thinking about booking another session. Definitely recommend this studio to anyone looking for a fun and creative activity!
I became a member after a 2hr workshop with Jenn. I've held memberships to various pottery studios across Manhattan and Queens and Atacama studio is by far the best one yet. Jenn makes this place feel so welcoming for members. It has a real intimate community feel to it. Everyone has been incredibly friendly and respectful. They all take accountability of the space and time. This place is a local haven for amateur/beginner ceramists. It is not suitable for professional ceramists but that's not what Atacama strives to be and I love that because it means that it has a relaxed, non-intimidating vibe to the whole place. I brought many of my friends here for a private party (perks of being a member here) and they loved it. If you are looking for an affordable local studio, and want somewhere to develop your skills in wheel throwing, this is the place. Both Jenn and the Members pride themselves in keeping this tidy and organised as we love this space like our own.
