Initially we were very pleased with Levine Children's hospital. The doctors there diagnosed my son with a rare issue we've always known he has had, but no one else would listen to us about his odd symptoms. He had two surgeries to fix the issue. His first surgery was on October 3rd and his second was December 16th. We'll, yesterday we got a letter in the mail stating that our insurance has denied the claims. We called our insurance and they told us that they were denied because prior authorization was not obtained for either surgery, which the doctors are supposed to do. The other part of the denial was because the surgery was deemed experimental and not medically necessary because the doctors failed to send in the evidence showing his surgeries were medically necessary. To make things even worse, we called the hospital to try to speak with someone about why none of this was done and they said that we arent allowed to speak with the team who is working with our insurance to resolve the issue. I find that to be bullcrap. We should be able to be part of the process of fixing this!!!! We should be informed of EVERYTHING every step of the way! I am truly thankful for what they have done for my son, but the crap they are putting us through because they failed to do their part is ridiculous. You can rest assured lawyers will be involved if we get stuck with $13,000 worth of medical bills over their mistakes!
