Initially we were very pleased with Levine Children's hospital. The doctors there diagnosed my son with a rare issue we've always known he has had, but no one else would listen to us about his odd symptoms. He had two surgeries to fix the issue. His first surgery was on October 3rd and his second was December 16th. We'll, yesterday we got a letter in the mail stating that our insurance has denied the claims. We called our insurance and they told us that they were denied because prior authorization was not obtained for either surgery, which the doctors are supposed to do. The other part of the denial was because the surgery was deemed experimental and not medically necessary because the doctors failed to send in the evidence showing his surgeries were medically necessary. To make things even worse, we called the hospital to try to speak with someone about why none of this was done and they said that we arent allowed to speak with the team who is working with our insurance to resolve the issue. I find that to be bullcrap. We should be able to be part of the process of fixing this!!!! We should be informed of EVERYTHING every step of the way! I am truly thankful for what they have done for my son, but the crap they are putting us through because they failed to do their part is ridiculous. You can rest assured lawyers will be involved if we get stuck with $13,000 worth of medical bills over their mistakes!
This place was good. They to care of my young cousin with all you can eat desserts and toys to play with. They gave us a essential gift hamper with diapers and kitchen essentials. The doctors made us very comfortable and aways checked on us. It is pricey but a really good facility if you can afford.
While on a quick trip to Charlotte, my 11 year old son fell and broke his femur. The ambulance took us to Atrium Livine Children’s hospital. This is the 3rd time he’s broke his leg, so he was extremely anxious and scared. The ER staff was friendly and calming. The transitional wait from ER to a room was a bit long. We were moved to the Observation floor which leaves something to be desired as far as the rooms go, but the staff and nurses were amazing, especially Taylor and Kim!! Dr. Scannell (ortho surgeon) is an exceptional doctor in every way. This wasn’t what we planned for our weekend, but the kind staff made it bearable.
I don’t know if I will ever have the words to express how much this hospital and it’s provider’s mean to me. In 2023, I unexpectedly went into labor at 33 weeks. I went straight to my local ER, as I live in Shelby, and given that they could not stop my labor, nor had the resources needed for my situation, I was transferred to Levine’s. My daughter spent 36 days in the NICU and while social worker’s got me set up at the RMH so I could be close, I spent every day from about 7am-7:30pm at my daughter’s bedside and this hospital became home. Every person I encountered from valet, kitchen, housekeeping, nursing— was phenomenal. It is clear the people that work here have a heart and passion for what they do. Although this is not that kind of scenario anyone wants to be having a baby, when I look back on this period of my life, I do it with a smile; because that is how much they held my hand and walked me through the experience. There were specifically two nurse’s at the time: Brooke and Gloria, who will forever hold pieces of my heart. They cared for my daughter as if she was their own, all while mothering me as I learned how to become one. That’s not the kind of thing nursing school can teach you, that comes from within, and I could never thank God enough for placing them in our lives. Fast forward 2 years, and my daughter ended up with bronchiolitis and a rhinovirus infection that due to undiagnosed asthma, landed her in respiratory failure with hypoxia. We were once again transferred to Levine’s. While it is a different experience and vibe from the NICU, the staff was once again amazing. They go above and beyond to make sure your needs are met, you are comfortable, and communicate every step of the way. I wish more facilities took notes. Thank you for making some of the most uncertain and anxiety inducing parts of life bearable. And once again, thank you for giving me the greatest gift and saving my daughter— twice 💛
I am just so impressed at the care provided to us here at Levine’s Children Hospital. From every nurse, ER doctor, to the cafe workers and gift shop employees, it has been such a comfortable experience, even with the stress. Everyone is so kind, supportive, and caring of our son, my wife, and myself. They celebrate the victories with us, and even our son got a visit from Santa Claus and received an early Santa gift. We are just so beyond grateful for this institution and that God has placed it on these many health worker’s hearts to care for the children in the surrounding areas. We are so, so blessed, impressed, and thankful for what they do. The best children’s hospital in North Carolina, maybe in the whole United States. Thank you, Levine’s, for saving our boy and provided excellent care with his diagnosis, surgery, and post-care. 💙
