Absolutely beautiful and so much to do. Balboa Park is full of incredible museums, gardens, and stunning architecture. I went by myself and had a great time just exploring at my own pace. I visited the Timken Art Museum, the Botanical Building, and spent time walking through the gardens and admiring the historic buildings. Sitting by the fountain was such a peaceful moment. It’s the perfect place to wander, relax, and take everything in—whether you’re solo or with others. Highly recommend if you’re visiting San Diego.
Balboa Park took alot of architectul ingenuity to create. To be able to check everything out at the place, you need at lease 2 days. Keep in mind that the different museums or other venues have additional cost to enter. If you get hungry, we saw at least 3 different restaurants and countless vendors. If your handicap and have your placard, parking is free, otherwise you need to pay for parking at the machine. If you utilize a walker, wheelchair, or mobile scooter, the walkways are wide enough for you. The buildings are immaculantly created to fit. Makes you wonder if you are in Europe. Great place to get married or do a photo-shoot.
Lots to do in the park and multiple entries to get to the park. Bunch of museums, historical buildings and restaurants. Plenty busy during the day and parking was little difficult to find. At the time, the parking fee was disabled but it was set to start in Jan 26. Shuttle to get around was nice to have.
What an outstanding gathering place! Featuring museums and Green space and some restaurants and public Plazas, it’s a lovely and safe and beautiful area. We came for the annual December nights, where most of the museums are open for free and feature special Christmas crafts and cocktails! There were also food trucks circling a central area near many of the museums. The public restrooms are clean, although, of course, there was a line that night. It felt very safe, and we saw several teens and even older children walking around and exploring. The park was beautifully decorated for the December nights, and they had a free DJ set up with dance music and a selfie station and bars mixing great cocktails. The cocktails were extra, of course. Great variety of food trucks including some not so typical fare. I imagine even without the December nights event that this park area is lovely and safe and clean. What a delight!
Balboa Park is less of a traditional park and more of an expansive, open-air area with a ton of museum with a world-class zoo attached to it. The architecture is phenomenal, and the entire area is just a pleasure to walk around. Whether you’re up for a leisurely stroll, a scenic run, or simply soaking in the atmosphere, it’s an absolutely wonderful place to explore. If you have the time while you’re in the area, I highly recommend making a visit.
