Beautiful and original exhibit by an autistic artist named Kambel Smith. Very welcoming, knowledgeable and friendly staff (thanks Savannah).
On my recent trip to Houston I visited several galleries to get an idea of what's happening in art there. In this gallery I had the great pleasure of meeting both the curator of their summer show and the gallery owner herself. In New York, gallerists and gallery workers ccannot typically be bothered with a visitor unless they have mountains of cash to spend on the art. My experience in the Barbara Davis gallery was very much the opposite. They were engaging and interesting and it resulted in a wandering conversation that touched on a number of things about both the art on view and collecting in general. If you're in Houston to see art, don't forget this stop. The work on the walls made an excellent case for Houston's art scene and, if you choose, you'll likely have some good discussion.
This building houses several galleries that display artwork of artist from abroad as well as nativity to Houston. Conveniently located in the museum district the admission is FREE and has easy accessible parking. The two-story building has four galleries as well as a projects room, which forties the opportunity to display different artists work simultaneously. I visited the Anya Tish Gallery which was showcasing the artist Adela Andea, her exhibit is the Glacial Parallax. I was very intrigued in how the artist uses organic materials to create such thought provoking art. If you like art then visiting the multiple galleries on Montrose Blvd. is a great opportunity to support our Art district and enjoy a leisure day in Houston.
Don't bother if you want to see fine art. This "gallery" is just another warehouse for pretentious poseurs to act out their infantile fantasies of being perceived as artists. On the other hand, it is somewhat entertaining to read the ridiculously pretentious titles and descriptions of the "art' and listen to the pseudointellectual comments made by shallow snobs who pretend to be interested in a white canvas with a green stripe.
