Yet again another holiday gift Cabela's insists on ruining as it always does! I said after last years ridiculous fiasco of an order online that I would never shop at Cabela's again as there way overpriced anyway but they had a decent black Friday special on an item this year my dad couldn't live without so I ordered it as a Christmas present. Item clearly says it will not be identifiable by its packaging but I checked the gift box anyway. Of course they shipped it in its original packing with nothing covering over the box that shows exactly what's inside it shipped in its original packaging. Thanks yet again Cabela's and this will truly be the last time I shop here.
I love this store so I can't bring myself to post lower than a 3 star. But I'm here At 8pm. And for being one of the 6 people in the store.... It is difficult to get everything in a timely fashion. It would be nice if you had an employee or two for every station in which things need to be unlocked or taken out of a case.
Look... I spent a lot of time outdoors. Between firearms, ammunition, fishing gear, and clothing items, I've probably spent a few thousand dollars easy here at this location. I'm sure thats a drop in the bucket for Bass Pro, but my few grand is a lot to me. The staff here have always been pleasant and helpful when I'm making a purchase. I went to do a tiny exchange or refund on a few of the same worm-style flies I had purchased here that had come apart in my hands before I even tied them to a line. I got the distinct impression the person thought I was trying to pull a fast one. No, I did not keep the rubbery material that fell off of them. I was told "it will be hard to do an exchange without it," but that shouldn't matter. The flies were purchased here, and they literally fell apart before they even hit the water. They were purchased in separate transactions on different dates, which I stated clearly. I was polite, even though I was frustrated that it was obvious the person behind the counter didn't want to believe anything I was saying. I went back and grabbed the corresponding flies to show them what they were supposed to look like. When all was said and done, I was given two exchanges total, because they didn't seem to want to look at the multiple transactions. I was trying to do the store a favor to show them an obvious quality control issue regarding this particular style of fly they sell. You have to root through all of them in the bin just to find the one that's intact. You would think that a $2 fly wouldn't be such a big deal to a store this size, but I was met with the attitude that this was a major inconvenience and that I was somehow trying to be deceitful. I think I'll probably take my business to Scheels at this point.
Tao in the firearms department was fixated on nomenclature over customer service when selling firearm accessories. I was concerned that parts were missing or had been intentionally removed from a loosely sealed packaging of a product. The bizarre fixation Tao had on explaining that a bayonet is not a knife when I clearly informed him I did not care was appalling as it was irrelevant to my concern. On arrival home with the product, I learned there is a good chance that pieces had been removed due to the installation instructions and parts list, justifying my concern. Due to desiring the product anyway, It is not a return concern for me. However, I became curious about Tao's fixation on bayonets and learned from Google and Wikipedia that a bayonet is indeed a knife. Let's do a little better next time, Bass Pro Shop. That was a little weird.
