Visited Bermondsey Market years ago during my UK annual visits collecting antiques. You have to get there before 6am Friday morning ~ bring a flashlight and carry totes. Watch the pickers come in to set up their booths and the Rolls Royce’s with their antiques dealers waiting to descend upon the gems. That was during my Staffordshire collecting days. Got some great pieces. It’s an amazing experience

I visited this market in July as a traveler looking for vintage silver jewelry. After browsing, I stopped at the first booth on the left inside the indoor area. The dealer seemed friendly and told me the pieces were silver, presenting them as genuine vintage items. I purchased a necklace and two bracelets for £250. However, after returning home, I discovered that both bracelets were not real silver chains. The plating had worn off, the links were poorly made, and only small parts like clasps or charms had silver marks (see photos). These were clearly cheap remakes, not authentic vintage silver as described. This experience left me very disappointed. I trusted the dealer’s explanation, but in reality I was deceived. Visitors to this market should be very cautious, especially at this booth.

Good finds and kind people. Some are overpriced, but people are willing to negotiate and explain about the items. Honest opening times are probably 8am-1.30pm. Reccomend if you have an hour to spare on a Friday!
