Created in honor of the American hero, Betty Ong, who was the first person to alert authorities of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. A flight attendant on flight 11, she calmly and courageously called authorities, informing the world of the first plane being hijacked, that ultimately crashed into the World Trade Center. Her family opened this recreation center, open to all, to stand for the goodness and joy she stood for. Such a beautiful story and legacy.
Beautiful rec center and the recent renovations still look fresh. Lovely court and workout room. Friendly staff. Wish the hours were longer but great overall. On Tuesday, they have a 2 hour open gym for badminton, but only 4 courts, so it's extremely hard to get a space.
amazing free space for badminton! you just need your vac proof and your ID and you can play badminton, wearing your mask anytime is required. you need to sign up on the board because there are many people coming, you can play 30min and 30min off. i understand that rule and still love it!
Fun place for kids to hang out to play basketball. The day I was at the Rec Center, there was a Holiday Party for 300 school kids from Gordon J. Lau Elementary School. Santa came to pass out goodies. Lots of arts and craft projects and games for the kids. An after party for the volunteers when it was over.
This city-run rec facility is clean, new, and free. The indoor basketball court is well maintained and always has pickup games. There are definitely cliques and regulars on the court, but everyone is fair and if you are patient you will be able to play. Winner holds the court.
