I go here on a weekly basis after a group bicycle ride. I can't really speak as to the taste or quality of food as I only get their coffee and pastries which are great tasting and value. Be advised that in the winter months (snowbirds) the ording line can get quite long in the A.M. The outdoors covered seating area is good in the spring/fall.
Me Terrible service, we won't be back. This was our 2nd visit. We ordered 21.00 through the kiosk for pastries we were taking to go. The first thing, was I asked for 2 waters to go. The cashier gave me paper coffee cups. I asked for the plastic cups with the lids and straws, as they had given us on our first visit ( and I told her as such) last week as we were going to be in our car driving. She told me "the paper ones will do just fine." I asked her why we were given the plastic ones last week and she said "I don't know. I will have to charge you for a fountain drink if I give you those cups". Granted, she was smiling as she said all of this, so I mirrored her behavior. I was smiling as well when I asked to speak to a supervisor or manager. The dark haired man came over and flatly said,"I can give you this" which was the coffee cup. He then told me the lids were by the coffee station. He wasn't rude but he certainly wasn't friendly. Okay that's fine, I took the cups but I was thinking to myself that wasn't the best service in that instance. But then what really solidified my opinion of the place, was the fact that we were sitting down and 8 minutes had passed and no one had put the order together. If there had been a line of customers then, sure, I don't mind it it takes 20 minutes. But the employee was literally standing at the pastry case not currently helping anyone. When I asked her about my order, she looked down and said "oh, it's a kiosk order"? The funny thing was, the ticket for my order had already been ripped off the register tape and was sitting on the counter. So obviously someone ripped it off the register tape and saw there was an order. At that point, I just said to the woman "no problem, we will just cancel the order" in a business tone. Because to me, it is Business. I am paying money in exchange for goods and services WHEN I see the value in said goods and services. When I have to keep asking for a simple cup of ice water in the appropriate cup, that costs that company probably no more than 0.50 cents, when I have spent 21.00 dollars on food? I could even see if they want to charge the cost of the actual cup, then sure. But you want to charge a paying custom the full price of a soda drink? And THEN, you have the gall to make customers wait needlessly for their order when you literally have the order ticket pulled off the register tape and your standing around not helping anyone? No, you can keep all of it, keep your food, cups and terrible service. As a paying customer, I don't get mad, I don't yell, I just ask for the refund leave and I don't go back. I don't have to tolerate bad service, I just take my money elsewhere. Especially in this day and age when things are getting more expensive. Thank God we live in America where we have plenty of choices. Sure, one 21.00 refund won't put them out of business. But it's less business they will get. And trust me, I will make sure to tell everyone. That's how it works when you get bad service! I would also like like to ad: those cups are for hot drinks, not cold drinks. I know because I have worked in food and beverage for over 10 years. The reason I asked for a plastic cup for ice water, is because I know that those paper cups will soften and start leaking, which they did, in the cup holder of the car.
Just a solid 'small bite to eat' type place, relax, read a book, have a bite, maybe drink your coffee and have a conversation with your friends/sit and stare at the mountain. It's very quaint, reminds me of an airport lounge, also smells like it too. I ordered a Swiss grilled cheese on sourdough with a small tomato basil soup, dined-in, at 11am or so ($17.50~ with tip). Quite busy on a weekday. My meal was supposed to come with chips, but it did not. That's okay, no big deal, the sandwich was just okay, the soup was also just okay. I thought it was kind of funny that the tomato basil soup only had one string of basil in it, whole thing, one piece of basil. It tasted like tomato soup, without basil. I wouldn't drive hours out of my way to visit, but I'd stop in again if on the way somewhere, I'm more interested in the Gazpacho soup which is only served in the spring/fall.
Friendly staff, delicious food and portions large enough for two meals or one satisfying meal for a ravenous person. Highly recommend if you’re craving soups and sandwiches.
I had such a great experience here. I came in for something specific which they were out of. The staff said they often run out due to demand. I asked about pre ordering options. The staff member explained all the ways I can order. I didn’t feel pressured to buy anything. I did end up buying a pretzel (amaze), pot pie (tasted almost like a desert) and an eclair (divine). All the items were packed neatly.
