I stopped by Bitty & Beau’s in San Marco today, and what I expected to be a quick coffee run turned into one of the most uplifting experiences I’ve had in a long time. The chai tea latte was absolutely delicious—smooth, perfectly balanced, and made with so much care. But honestly, the coffee is just the beautiful bonus. This place is so much more. It’s a human rights movement disguised as a coffee shop, and you feel that the moment you walk in. The team members—individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities—are genuinely proud, warm, and incredibly skilled at what they do. Their smiles, enthusiasm, and attention to detail made my visit feel special and seen. Watching them work with such joy and competence is a powerful reminder of how much talent and heart gets overlooked in our world. The founders’ mission—to change the way people see other people, one cup at a time—shines through everything here. In a society where over 80% of people with disabilities face unemployment, Bitty & Beau’s is creating real opportunity, dignity, and belonging.
