This place is very inattentive and careless. I have a Shih Tzu whose hair I’ve been growing out since she was a puppy—she is now 5 years old. I specifically maintain her long coat, including her ponytails and ear hair. Despite this, the shop said they accidentally mixed up my dog with another and chopped almost all of her hair off. All they could say was, “Sorry, we mixed up your dog.” That’s not acceptable, especially when it comes to someone’s pet and years of care. I was extremely disappointed with the lack of attention and responsibility.
DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO THIS PLACE. I started taking my two Shih tzu dogs to this business in 2020. This is when the original owner stilled owned and ran this business, Bonnie herself. The very first appointment my two dogs were groomed by the owner, Bonnie. She said she liked to groom dogs for their very first appointment with the business. She did a great job. I continued to take my dogs here since the service was good and haircuts turned out good. Then around 2021/2022, the business was sold to a man. The man told my spouse at one of the appointments that he was the new owner. It became obvious the business was under new ownership/management because staffing changed drastically and the professionalism was very poor. Poor front desk service. Unorganized and rude. Didn’t listen to my instructions on how I wanted my dogs haircut to be. The groom appointment itself was like 5-6 hours. My dogs clearly sat in the crate for hours. Then the end product after haircuts were terrible. My dogs looked shabby and didn’t smell clean. One of my dogs contracted kennel cough TWICE from this place!!!! First time was when the new owner bought the business and second time was just this year 2025. My dogs are vaccinated and DON’T spend time at dog parks or dog daycare and both times he got sick two weeks after the groom appointment, which is the incubation period to onset of symptoms. We should have stopped taking our dogs to this business but it was convenient and pricing is lower than most DC grooming locations. Although the pricing gives you what you pay for, lousy service and bad haircuts. They have no organized booking system. They barely answer the phone and only write appointments in a book at the desk. Then they just call you the day before your appointment. Their website STILL says it’s owned by the original owner and the hours of operation aren’t updated. No pricing listed either. The LAST STRAW for me was just last week(September 18th), I didn’t receive a phone call that day during business hours to confirm the appointment for the next day. I booked two months prior. Then at 6:47pm that night, I got a text from the personal cell phone of the receptionist asking if I was still bringing my dogs for their scheduled appointment the next day, I confirmed they would be there. Mind you, I’ve never gotten a text from this place and it was clearly an informal text from the receptionist. She replied to my confirmation that they would be there. The next morning at 7:30am, I received a text message from the manager, Ashley, saying my dogs groom appointment was being CANCELED due to short staffing. I was just getting ready to leave the house shortly to drop them off at 8:30am. I called the shop right at 8:30am when they open and spoke to Ashley. I stated that my dogs appointment was booked two months prior and asked what happened? She said she had someone call out of work and they had to cancel 6 grooming appointments that day but kept some appointments. I, then, asked how did she determine who’s appointment was canceled. She said she just randomly picked 6 appointments. I said well my dogs are Shih tzu’s and I made this appointment two months ago. My breed of dogs can’t miss their appointment and my appointment should have been one of the priorities since I booked two months prior. She just kept repeating herself that she apologized and had someone call out. She had no explanation for how she determined which dogs would be canceled. I, asked to speak to the owner and she said she was the owner. I said what happened to the other owner, a man. I found her to be untruthful especially since her text identified herself as the manager. If she is the owner, then I feel as though she would have identified herself as the owner in her text message to cancel the groom appointment. Owners of a business identify themselves as “owner” not just say “manager”. They don’t smile or greet you when you bring your fur baby in. It’s too many negatives with this place. We will never bring our dogs back.
We booked an appointment at Bonnie’s for our mini schnauzer, it was the worst experience. It has never been great, but we kept going because the location was convenient. I dropped him at 8:50 am and patiently waited for them to call me, it was 1:30 pm and I decided to call them to have an update about the pick up time, but nobody picked up the phone. I decided to walk down and arrived at 1:45pm. My dog was still in the cage, no haircut after almost 5 HOURS and she said she needed another hour! I refused to pay, but she said I had to pay 75 dollars for the bath. I just wanted my dog bc I had to go to work so I paid. I think it’s a punishment to take your dog there, they’re clearly not managing time well and the dogs are paying the price. They have booking system that is very outdated. They still ask for a 20% tip for terrible service. Do better Bonnie !!
I've been a loyal customer trekking from NW to Bonnie's for close to 5 years - that's how great of an experience it was for me to keep coming back. The ownership change within the last year has impacted the service to the point I will never come back. We arrived at my last appointment 6-ish weeks ago and were initially denied because they were shorthanded and the cutoff was 10 am (we arrived at 9:55). Mid sentence, the employee (possibly owner) arbitrarily changed the cut off to 9:30. At that point I started to walk out and said I'd never come back. She then begrudgingly accepted my dog. Fast forward to today, it's pouring rain and there were a few people waiting outside - NBD. 2 separate owners went inside to check in their dogs. For the next 10-15 minutes they're inside chatting it up with the skeleton crew of employees (one was the owner I'm pretty sure) while we're all standing in the rain. Everyone inside clearly sees us outside (the owner and I made eye contact a few times) and not once was there an effort made to move on from the people inside or make room so we can come in from the rain. Shocking it wasn't a given to get your customers out of the pouring rain. Enough was enough and I walked away. I will never come back. Truly is sad such a long running establishment has turned south so quickly. The last few reviews echo this exact same experience.
I just love Bonnie’s very very friendly people!!! I carried my Yorkie Taco for his first cut there, and I was impressed. I love the way Bonnie and her team took care of my dog. He liked everybody there. The new owners, I was really really were impressed with them too. When Ms. Bonnie does retire her place will be in really good hands and I will continue to get my dog groomed there. If I could give 10 stars they would get it!!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
