The Gleneagles location is not as cozy and funky as the old Book People on Granite. On the other hand, the shop is a lot better organized, larger, and neater. There are still a mix of old and new titles and the staff continue the tradition of high touch service. The shelves are tidy and organized by genre. Staff are very helpful and knowledgeable and will help get you in touch with the exact book that you want. Do not hesitate to ask them to order what they don't have in the store. Particularly impressive is the extensive event programming, bringing in a variety of authors, critics, and commentators for lively discussions. The store is a strong advocate for the right to read and is protective of the wide variety of people in our community. I just wish they had relocated closer to the original shop to make it easier for me to visit more frequently.
Best bookstore ever. Locally owned? Yea! Up to date on new releases? Heck yea! If they don’t have it? They’ll order it for you! Easy. They’re some of the coolest people and they’re always willing to help or just chat.
Hands down my new favorite little book store! I've always preferred stores like this to the big name places, because they are much more welcoming and helpful! Found Book People on accident, stopped to get food on the way home with my son and saw the sign. Both of us immediately had to check it out and glad we did. We both got new books, and I got a new Tshirt and I can promise we will be going back!
Book People is everything an independent bookstore should be—charming, welcoming, and filled with carefully curated titles you won’t always find in the big-box stores. The staff is fantastic: knowledgeable, passionate, and always eager to help you find exactly what you’re looking for (or something you didn’t know you needed!). Be sure to check out their calendar of events—author talks, book clubs, community gatherings, and more. Don’t be shy! Attend one, and I guarantee you’ll walk out with a great book and a whole new circle of friends. Support local, connect with fellow readers, and fall in love with reading all over again. Book People is a true Richmond gem!
Wonderful staff, extensive options, solid balance between new and used books, and just such welcoming vibes. I felt like I was in a television show, hearing how the staff seemed to truly know everyone who came into the store and checked in on their lives. My only problem was that I knew how good their stock was because I owned so many of the books available already! But the team was so helpful with finding something I liked and was more than happy to talk books for a while too. I really look forward to heading back soon.
