I met with Don Button to seek assistance with my Q3 quarterly tax estimate. Over the following month, I consistently emailed documents and left several voicemails, each time asking for guidance and attempting to establish a client relationship with his firm. Despite these efforts, I received no correspondence until just five days before the quarterly tax estimate deadline. At that time, Don informed me: “I have no agreement with you that we were going to provide you with services.” While I understand he may be busy, a basic level of professional courtesy would have been to communicate earlier that they would not be able to take me on as a client. Instead, I was left without direction as a deadline approached. His stated reason—that I had not sent my tax returns—is incorrect, as I had emailed them a week after our initial meeting. To make matters worse, the attached meeting notes referred to me as “Tim” throughout, underscoring the lack of care or attention given to our interactions. Edit: To address the owners response. The statement that my email was incorrect is not accurate. While I will not post the email publicly out of respect for your staff’s privacy, it is clear that my client invoices were received — this was confirmed by Don himself in his reply. That reply was sent to the same address where I had originally provided my tax records, and it is the same address that you later cc’d in your own response. Attempting to shift responsibility onto me for what was, in fact, your firm’s lack of communication and follow-through is disappointing and unprofessional. It reflects poorly on the standards of conduct one should expect from a licensed CPA practice.

This is a long overdue review...switching over to Button & Button CPA is one of the best decisions I ever made for my business! It is such a relief knowing that my accounting is being taken care of so I can focus more on running and growing my business. Not to mention how much money I have saved on taxes :)
