Canots Légaré is truly a hidden gem in the city! If you’re looking for an easy and affordable way to spend time in nature without leaving town, this is the perfect spot. They offer canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards so you can choose your adventure and paddle for kilometers along the beautiful St. Charles River. The river is calm and the scenery is amazing — you’ll see lots of birds, plants, and sometimes even turtles. It’s peaceful and feels like a mini getaway right in the middle of the city. One of the best things is their opening hours. They’re open until 9 pm on weekdays and Saturdays (7 pm on Sundays), which is super convenient if you want to go after work or enjoy a sunset paddle. I really appreciate places that give people the chance to enjoy the outdoors even if you have a busy schedule during the day. The staff is always friendly, helpful, and they explain everything you need to know if you’re a beginner. The equipment is well-maintained and there’s a nice dock that makes it easy to get in and out of the water. I highly recommend Canots Légaré to anyone who wants to relax, get some light exercise, and reconnect with nature without having to drive far. Whether you’re going solo, with friends, or with family, it’s an amazing experience every time.
A very fun and easily accessible place. We’re visiting from NYC & wanted to take our puppy to her first canoe experience. We found a spot within half hour of Quebec City and decided to go for an hour canoe after work. I loved that they have extended summer hours and it was a perfect time to absorb sunset. We also appreciated that we didn’t have to commit to anything longer. We brought our own pet vest but they have ample available. Lots of locals with friends and their pets brought their dinners out and just lazed around. What a fun non traditional spot for tourists.
Loved going to this place especially in the fall season. The scenery was breathtaking. The personnel is very friendly and helpful. The only reason I took one star out is because I was there on a day there were a few large school groups and it impacted my day. Some of them were very loud and playing war games between each other and not being careful at all with their surroundings. One of them came straight towards me and was about to bump me hard but I was able to push them away on time which destabilized my canot. I called The staff to complain about their careless behaviours and they were very responsive and understanding. I think the administration should put strict rules in place for large school groups to make sure there are enough adults present to supervise their students. If you want a peaceful and enjoyable ride, just make sure to phone ahead and ask if there’s large school groups booking that day before you make a reservation.
Very nice place for kayaking! The water is super calm. Renting a kayak is very affordable and if you stay after closing time you can keep the kayak for as long as you’d like and return the equipment even after they’re closed. For those of you who are nervous or hesitant: do it. I was nervous since I had never done it before and get stressed around big bodies of water, but I honestly felt so safe and the water is not too deep. I would suggest that you do not go in the evening though because that’s when all the bugs come out and the mosquitoes are HUGE. Make sure you place your phone in a waterproof pouch/bag if you are going to bring it with you. You are likely to have a mini puddle within the kayak around your legs. The only reason I did not give this a 5 star is because no one gave us any safety information nor guidance on how to use the kayaks. It was my first time so if I hadn’t been with people who have done this before, I might have been in trouble.
