Our rescued mixed-breed dog, Juno, has always been a joy—but she definitely came with some challenges. Early on, she showed fear-based reactivity toward both people and other dogs, and at just three months old we were told by a vet that she was “not normal” and would struggle with serious behavioural issues for life. We were referred to a behaviourist, tried medication, and worked with several trainers, but progress was limited. After we weaned Juno off the medication, we decided to try a P.U.P. walk with Cascadia Dog Training. As expected, Juno became reactive—but that’s when Michelle stepped in. Within minutes, Juno was calmly walking in line with the other dogs without any reactivity. It honestly felt like a small miracle. We enrolled in Cascadia’s Set For Life program and worked closely with Cass over the next few months. By the end of the training, Juno was a completely different dog—we could confidently walk past people and other dogs without any reaction. When we attended another P.U.P. walk afterward, everyone was amazed by how far she had come. At three years old, Juno is still a work in progress, but Cascadia has given us the tools, confidence, and support to set her up for long-term success. The process takes commitment and effort, but the results have far exceeded our expectations. We are incredibly grateful to Michelle and Cass and wholeheartedly recommend Cascadia Dog Training to anyone looking for real, compassionate help with their dog’s behaviour.
We can’t thank Cascadia and Cass enough. When we first reached out we were at a loss, it was our last try before giving our rescue Hunter away. We were dealing with really bad separation anxiety and terrible reactivity on leash. Everytime I came back from a walk I was in tears and shaking from stress. We couldn’t even leave the house for more than 10 minutes. Now, Hunter is able to stay alone for 4 hours!!!!!! And his walks are peaceful and he responds really well to any commands we give him. Thank you sooo much to Cass and the team at Cascadia!
Me and my dogs are the Sweat Hogs of the Dog World. Two doodles and a burnout; misunderstood, confused, trouble-makers even if it's not the intention. Notorious in the neighbourhood for vicious, window-bending barking and regularly going AWOL with no one in the house noticing, I was overwhelmed and at my wits end. On-leash nuclear-like reactivity and disapproving looks from concerned citizens meant walks were done in the shadows, hastily, anxiously and the occasional human rotator cuff injury. We needed serious help - a neurodivergent with PTSD (me), an entitled princess who never knew a day of hardship in her life (Pup 1) and a sweet little rescued boy who maybe belongs on the doggy short bus (Pup 2 - IYKYK). I contacted Cascadia on a whim. Can't remember if it was a google search or serendipity, but next I knew I was doing intake with Michelle and her team, trauma-dumping all over the zoom screen. It took longer than the other families. We had to start and restart a few times. We needed a canine IEP and accommodations. We had to have softer goals than the other families in the neighbourhood with their perfectly-trained dogs and matching high-vis gear. But we managed and now I can walk my dogs without shame. Sure, they still bark and pull. The "special" dog clearly doesn't get what's going on much of the time, but he isn't as scared of people anymore and that's a blessing in an of itself. Many thanks to the team, especially to Cass for being our champion and cheerleader. Poppy, Piper and I thank you from the bottom of our chaotic little hearts. We can't wait for more and to join those pack walks one of these days. We will bring buttered bagels for all dogs. :)
I was initially skeptical of a business with exclusively five-star reviews, but Cascadia Dog Training earns every single one. Our experience was absolutely phenomenal. We sought their help for our rescue dog, Freyja, to address her poor recall and emerging leash reactivity. We were matched with their trainer, Terra, whose expertise was evident from the very first session. Her approach was both effective and easy for us to understand, leading to immediate and noticeable improvements in Freyja's behavior. The transformation has been incredible. Thanks to Terra's guidance, Freyja has graduated to joining pack walks and is now a confident, reliable hiking partner. We are immensely grateful to Terra and the Cascadia team. If you are on the fence about investing in professional training, I can wholeheartedly say it is worth it. They deliver on their promises and we highly recommend their services.
I can’t thank Cass and Cascadia enough. I have an 11-month-old Frenchie—and they can be very stubborn. So my goals with training weren’t too ambitious: I just wanted him to be able to listen to us outside and manage his impulses when seeing humans and other dogs from across the street (he's very social!). We were able to accomplish all that—and more. It was truly a loving and fun experience. The connection I have with Pino now is so much stronger; there’s a new level of trust that wasn’t there before. With all the resources Cass shared during our training sessions—plus the thorough notes and follow-up emails—our daily homework was not only helpful, but also enjoyable and cute. For our last session, we went to an off-leash trail. Pino had never been off-leash before, and I was nervous—especially because I thought he’d run off the moment another dog approached. But the outcome completely surprised me: his recall was great, and he was so polite with other dogs and humans passing by. I wholeheartedly recommend Cascadia. And if you're in North Van, you’ll get to meet Cass—whom Pino absolutely loves and who we are endlessly grateful for. Thank you to Cass, Michelle, and the whole Cascadia team for all the resources. Now I feel confident continuing everything on my own with Pino. I’m so much more at ease knowing he can now come along with his pawrents almost everywhere—so all three of us can enjoy more adventures together. Update: sharing grad photos!!
