My PC began having some funny issues last December. I suspected it was either my power supply or GPU and it was easiest to just replace both, which I did, and then it worked fine. Fast forward to May 2025 and I was like, "it maaaay have just been the PSU, maybe this 3080TI that I got for $2000 in May 2021 is actually still good and I could get $300 for it." But I wasn't sure so I took it to Chicago Computerland LLC in hopes to throw them maybe $50 or something to tell me if it's OK or not. Their shop is a bit of a catastrophe. Literally hundreds if not thousands of parts laying on the floor, floor to ceiling shelving. But the dude took my GPU, tagged it, put me in the computer and said he'd take a look in a month or two. OK, fine, whatever. Honestly I completely forgot about this. Fast forward to today, October 29th, I give him a call and am like "hey what's going on." Dude says "Oh yeah I remember this one, I plugged it in and got nothing. It's dead. We can recycle it if you like." Honestly given the state of his shop, and the 5 or so months that have passed I'm in serious doubt that he remembers my GPU in particular. Heck I barely remember it. So on the one hand I feel like he maybe just stole a GPU from me, but on other I suspected it might have been dead last year anyway. End of the day I didn't pay him anything.... I don't think. So I can't complain too much. Dude's got a million good reviews on here so maybe he's telling the truth but seems like they would've reached out to me when they actually tested my GPU, you know? Just a really strange experience overall for me.
Came in May for a battery issue with my computer and was told I'd need a new one. I paid that day and was told the battery would be ordered later that day and would get a call in about 2 weeks when it arrived. I never got a call, so I called in July to check in and was told the battery hadn't been ordered yet because it was 'out of stock' but they would check again within the next few days and give a call back. It's now October, I haven't received any updates, my calls haven't been returned and I've moved. I was also able to order the battery myself from the manufacturer's site and install it myself for cheaper than they were going to charge. The guy working seemed nice and knowledgeable but that's not really helpful if they don't follow through. Not recommended
They ghosted me. I called ahead, came to their shop and they said they'd have the part I needed within five business days. It's now been two full weeks, they not only failed to notify me if the part came in, but also are not answering any phone calls.
Chicago ComputerLand is the only place I will take my laptop for repairs. They are fair, knowledgeable, and do good work. I've NOT had to replace my computers several times because they were able to help. They are also GREAT for cleaning out all the dust, debris, and FUR/hair build-up from having many cats!
I left my laptop a couple of months ago to get it fixed it died suddenly and I wasn’t sure why. I’m not sure the name of the other associate that was there but there were times that he did not know a lot of information about the status of my computer, so Alex which I believe is the owner took over and made sure that it was properly fixed. Come to find out I just need a new battery. He was very helpful and was able to get my computer running within just a couple of days. Thank you, Alex! I’m telling all my friends to come to you!🥰
