This is not a good New Year’s party cruise. I attended this New Year’s boat party in 2023, and it was by far the worst cruise experience I have had. This is particularly disappointing given that I have attended New Year’s cruises in the bay annually since 2017. The boarding and service lines were excessively long—unlike anything I have previously experienced—which made it nearly impossible to access the complimentary drinks. Guests were limited to one drink at a time, further contributing to the delays. Guests were required to stand for extended periods; in my case, I stood in heels in cold weather for several hours while other guests ahead of us were seated for dining, and we were required to wait until they finished eating. This completely defeated the purpose of celebrating New Year’s Eve on a cruise. The setting felt more like a dinner and family cruise rather than a New Year’s Eve party. The overall environment did not reflect what was advertised. There were children running freely throughout the boat, which significantly detracted from the expected atmosphere. Additionally, the drink quality was poor, and the event appeared poorly planned and disorganized. There was a clear lack of crowd control, and individuals were able to walk up and purchase tickets at the last minute, despite others purchasing tickets online well in advance. This further diminished the value of the experience. Overall, the event did not meet expectations and was extremely disappointing. This experience demonstrated that bigger is not always better. I would strongly recommend considering a smaller New Year’s yacht experience, where guests are less likely to spend the majority of their time waiting in lines rather than enjoying the event.
I went with my coworkers on a holiday themed cruise (my company paid cruise). It was raining so I was glad there was a place to wait that was covered. In addition to our group there were others including families with children. Upon entering the cruise we were given mimosas. I don't drink so I had orange juice instead. We chose our seats and immediately we were greeted and served coffee. The view was lovely and the cruise had lovely decorations. Brunch started with plenty of choices including breakfast ,salad dessert and meat. But best of all were the views of the golden gate, alcatraz and san francisco bay. We were lucky to also see dolphins!. The cruise crew was nice. The servers were so nice too. All in all it was a great experience. I am thinking of going again but now with my family.
Came here for a work party very spacious boat dance floor multiple decks beverages were included. Cocktails were extra lunch cruise with full menu and desserts.
Having lived in the Bay Area for 35 years, I've done many Bay cruises (always from Pier 39) but this was my favorite. Mostly because the boat was nicer than a standard tour boat. But also the dock location being in Embarcadero. The boarding process was not confusing nor chaotic, and just a short, scenic walk from the Embarcadero BART station. The city views are incredible. You'll cruise by both sides of Alcatraz, under the Golden Gate (weather permitting, and it was), and under the Bay Bridge. Since this tour is 2 hours, I didn't feel rushed to get pictures or take in the scenery. The indoor area has nice window seating for enjoying the view without the wind. There's lots of space inside and out so it wasn't crowded taking in the views and getting pictures. Plenty of very nice restrooms onboard. The dining space was elegant. I wasn't expecting much from a buffet lunch but the food was actually good. Lots of options. I went back for seconds. Service was excellent. There was a keyboard player which added to the ambiance. Everything was so smooth from check-in, boarding, dining, and disembarking. All of the staff was friendly, welcoming and helpful. Highly recommend this experience.
It's been a long time since I went out on the bay to enjoy the sights and smells and take in the amazing view of the city. The Hornblower did not disappoint. It was the perfect combo of good music, great bar and food. Beautiful boat with so many levels and decks. The staff was super friendly, the bartenders went out of their way and the weather added the perfect touch. A bit of fog but not too cold either. I suggest giving it a try either as a treat for yourself or with friends and family to celebrate life.
