The food was OK…nothing really to write home about. The Lobster Benny had a claw and a half of meat and barely any sauce, I had to ask for more, not worth the money at all. The steak sandwich was decent but the chicken and waffles were horrible. The chairs we sat in were very uncomfortable and painful, I couldn’t wait to stand up. The alcohol selection was as extremely limited with the only vodka being Absolute. We were then told they specialize in tequila but they didn’t have any other the brands we asked for. I wish I had chosen a different location for Sunday brunch. This places is very over priced, spend your money somewhere else where you can get good food and actually be comfortable.
I never write Google reviews but I just had to write one for this gorgeous venue! I was tasked with organizing a summer work party here for our staff who are mostly remote workers, hoping for a relaxed rooftop San Diego vibe… it couldn’t have been more perfect. The venue felt airy, sunny, colorful and full of that effortless holiday energy. With views over Little Italy Plaza and beautiful dappled light softening the heat, it was the ideal setting for our group of 25. The décor was fun and vibrant, and absolutely set the tone for the rest of our day. The food and drink were outstanding. Presentation of the cocktails was beautiful, and every drink was packed with flavor and flair. The poke tuna and shrimp coconut dishes were huge hits, and the Pistolero Paloma and White Negroni were also fan favourites. But for me, the most important thing was the service... it was exceptional… efficient, friendly, and genuinely passionate about what they do. Natasha and her team went above and beyond for us at every step. Natasha was incredibly attentive to our needs throughout the planning process, even though I was based in New Zealand on the other side of the planet! They were open to us bringing in a Mariachi band to perform for a surprise moment during the event. Natasha also created a custom menu featuring our company branding and set up our food table with personalized Flaviar touches, which made the whole experience feel elevated and special. This was easily the best hospitality we experienced in all of San Diego. I would 100% recommend this venue and truly hope to work with Natasha again for future events.
Coco Maya is one of my friend’s mist visit recommendations. 🌴It is located in Little Italy, San Diego, make sure to get a reservation because the place is absolutely gorgeous! The vibes feel like you are in Bahamas or Honolulu! The food was so delicious. We tried the Spicy Mango Ceviche, Maine Lobster Tacos, the nachos (dressing was a bit wet but still tasty). For drinks, we had the Mango Guava Spritz and Frozen Coconut, both no alcoholic hehehe. The server was nice and the vibe was amazing. So happy we tried it!
I’ve been to Coco Maya many times — it’s one of my go-to spots in San Diego. This visit was a Saturday afternoon before heading to an event, and I was thrilled to find out they were running happy hour on food (the host initially said no, but our server confirmed it). I ordered my favorite: carnitas nachos, which aren’t on the regular menu but pop up during happy hour. They were as delicious as ever and served in a portion size that’s generous without being overwhelming. The rest of my group had burgers, which they loved, and we shared fries that were good but took a backseat to the mains. Service started a little slow but was friendly and efficient, and they managed to turn our table quickly despite being busy and recovering from a large event. Coco Maya always delivers solid food, a fun atmosphere, and plenty of drink options.
After running the SD marathon I was super hungry and this place was the place we stopped to eat. The entrance gave a jungle/George of jungle vibes. As you entered the building you have to go up stairs where you'll be greeted by the host. Lots of natural light with a bar right in the center. Our waitress super nice and even recommended the shrimp plate seen in the picture below. The menu isn't super busy but enough to chose from. Food is good over all and it is a place I would come back to if I was in the area again. The prices are a bit on the higher end for drinks specifically but that's just my opinion.
