It's not Christmas in Winston-Salem without Moravian ginger spice cookies & sugar cake. & I've always preferred Dewey's thinner cookie. It's also my go to for presents to friends across the country. Send them anywhere from the website!
I was very disappointed with my experience here. When I went to pick up my cake, the cashier asked if I liked it but didn’t even wait for my answer before joking, “Do you want us to remake it?” and then laughed it off. The cake was placed in a box that didn’t actually fit, left partially open and stapled together. I was then asked if I wanted tissue paper to block the gap, which of course I did. For an $80 cake I expect proper packaging that keeps it secure for transport. While the cake itself was beautiful aside from where the box smashed the backend, the poor customer service and careless packaging ruined the overall experience. Unfortunately, I will not be returning.
After recently moving here I had to try this 95 year old institution. This store is what dreams are made of. My wife’s family grew up celebrating all of life’s achievements with a sugary confection or cake from here and with any luck will continue for years to come! From the moment you open the door and smell the airborne sugar confections you know you have arrived. This place is magical in many ways. As the inventors of the renowned Moravian cookies to the cupcakes and special occasion cakes to cinnamon rolls and ice cream. The staff are all super friendly and willing to help pick out your favorite confection or special order your celebration cake. On my first visit I got a selection of cupcakes, ground house coffee and the famous Moravian cookies. The cupcakes were absolutely delicious as well is the coffee. I cant wait to try the cookies soon. I am already planning my next trip and hope to be frequenting this place often. If you find yourself in the area this is a must go to destination!
Love going in here. The pink lemonade cakes/cup cakes are still my favorite. They have other cute items to choose from. Like, mugs, books and pillows.. Today I tried one of the brownies. It was pretty good. Rich in chocolate flavor. Nice place to shop & eat treats. Also good customer service. Very kind and helpful
They fall very short on customer service. Ordered online said order ready for pickup. I arrive only to be told I need to return in 2 hours to get my order. So I have to make a 30 mile round trip to get my order 2 hours later only to find that I they have packed them on top of one another to conserve packaging. So they take nicely decorated eclairs and smash them down on top of one another. I’m sure they tasted fine but I could not serve them. And when I confronted the person in charge they say that’s how they have always packaged them and she was very short and smart about me complaining that I spend $30 on pastries that now looked like crap. She redid half my order and was very rude about it. Only one star because you can’t choose 0 starts. What shame!
