I’m so incredibly fortunate to have found Door of Help! My son struggled to read due to a speech issue and dyslexic tendencies and he was always below grade level. His confidence just wasn’t there. Homework time was painful for both him and I. I didn’t know where to turn. I had tried independent private tutors and chain tutoring services in town, but they just didn’t work for my son. I came across Door of Hope on google and gave them a try and I’m soooo happy I did! Almost immediately my son took an interest in reading where he didn’t before. He picked up books and read on his own. His teacher saw huge improvements within the first 2 months of tutoring. If you are struggling with your child’s reading, I encourage you to give Door of Help a call. You will not regret it! Karen, the director, is super responsive, flexible, kind, and understanding. My granddaughter started Kindergarten during Covid. Not only did she have to repeat Kindergarten, we later suspected a form of dyslexia. She wasn’t reading at all when I contacted Door of Hope, and public schools were not helping her reading disability. It took nine months, but she is now close to third grade level. I could not be more grateful, we are fortunate that we have a place in Bakersfield that can help. Highly recommend.

I cannot say enough about how amazing the tutors are at Door of Hope. If your child is struggling with reading then Door of Hope is your solution. Last year our son was in the 2nd grade, but started at a kindergarten reading level. He was struggling immensely both academically and with his self-esteem. He knew that he wasn't at the same level as the other kids and after trying multiple programs and strategies I found Door of Hope on the internet. There was talk about holding him back if we couldn't get him on track over the summer. He started at Door of Hope in June 2023 and did their intensive summer program plus a few extra months into this school year. It was a lot of work, both for him and the tutors. They never gave up on him and for that I am so grateful. The tutors are so kind and the one on one instruction is definitely what he needed. He graduated from the program in October 2023 reading above his grade level. He didn't have to be held back in school, he has found a joy for reading, and his self-esteem has increased tremendously. His 3rd grade teacher was astounded to hear that just last year he really couldn't read. I definitely recommend Door of Hope if your child is struggling to read. It is well worth the investment, both financially and time-wise.

My son was diagnosed with dyslexia and we were told by the doctor to find a program that utilizes the Lindamood Bell method. I did a Google search and came across Door of Hope Learning Center. My son started at a 1.1 reading level which was about a year behind where he should be. He hated reading. He could not read nonsense words. He could not read books, he basically memorized the words but never could actually read them. We have been going to Door of Hope Learning Center for about two months. My son has made tremendous strides in that time. He is able to read street signs. He is able to read nonsense words. He is able to sound out words that he is unfamiliar with. His confidence in reading has increased and he is able to read books completely by himself without any help. His reading level has increased to a 1.6 in just two months. I could not say enough amazing things about the people at Door of Hope. They are dedicated, passionate, and committed to helping your child become the reader they were always meant to be. I am confident that my son will be up to grade level before the end of the school year because of the people and the program at Door of Hope Learning Center.

Door of hope has been a blessing in my son’s life. At the age of eight and in third grade my son could not grasp the skill of reading. He was very aware of this and was starting to shut down on learning. Sending my son to school was a struggle because he knew everyday he was expected to perform a skill he simply did not have or understand- reading. My son was placed in special education classes to help with reading, in the last two years special ed has not accomplished what Door of Hope did for my son in six months. My son can now read on his own! He is sounding out words as well as compound words! I am overjoyed to see the self confidence and self esteem in my son go up! Before the pandemic hit I had another meeting with my son’s teachers! They mentioned my son now knew how to read. I pointed out it was due to Door of Hope’s wonderful work! His teachers also mentioned Ivan was more confident and stayed on task more than before. All this we owe to Door of Hope. I only wish we could have found them sooner. This program is definitely worth it! My son will continue with this program as long as he can benefit from it! Thank you Door of Hope!
