If I could give 0 stars I would. The owner of this shop is nasty. I promised myself I wouldn't go back into this place after the first bad experience but I stupidly tried again and I shouldn't have. She first wouldn't let me walk through the shop with a empty coffee cup and then was told that we couldn't walk through the shop with items we had gotten from the shed next door (which i highly recommend going to the shed). The previous time I was told not to put my keys near the clothing which they weren't near anyway and then she watched me the whole time I was in there. Very unpleasant experiences and I will never go back. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!
I discovered Down Memory Lane after visiting The Shed, and loved browsing all the vintage items. Its a beautiful shop but I definitely agree with all the other negative reviews about the owner; she's grumpy and rude, and it seemed like such an inconvenience for her when I wanted to try something on, or when I asked how much something was. 3 stars for the vintage items, but it wasn't a pleasant customer service experience at all.
Don't take children! 1 step in the door, no hello-told you need to stay with them and hold onto them. Felt watched the whole time then questioned on the way out if my grandson had brought the car he had in his hand with him- he had paid the $1 of his own money 5 minutes before to the nice younger employee. You'd think with new customers coming in from "The Shed" opposite the owner would be more welcoming to have returning customers when they are child free. It is organised and well stocked.
Today was my first visit to Down Memory Lane and safe to say it will be my last. As soon as entering the shop I was greeted by the older lady behind the counter with “keep you children with you, no wandering”. No hello, no smile, no friendliness. Wandering through, the store was set up beautifully, and the ambience was warm and cosy with the fireplace going. My 4 year old son was drawn to the box of $1 cars on the table. He chose a car and paid for it with his own money straight away, as 4 year olds have very little patience. The tattooed woman who served him was lovely - the older lady could learn a thing or two from her! As we continued looking through the store it felt like there were eyes constantly on us. When we went to leave the older lady accused my son of stealing the toy car he had paid for not even 5 minutes earlier. I understand it is school holidays, it’s busy and there would be more children than usual in your shop, but if you’re not a people person, don’t work in retail!
How disappointing. I purchased the cutest plate and tiny glass bottle for my collection from this store. When I went to pay, the total was $9, I didn’t have cash so I asked if she can just charge the extra 40 cents for not spending $10 to my card. The lady then went on a rant of how I have to spend more than $10 to pay with card and something else about spending $20. I wasn’t interested in her blabbering, so I went and got the exact same plate which was priced at a higher price (assuming the one I wanted to was less, due to crazing which I actually liked). As I took the plate from the counter to go and swap it out for the more expensive same plate, she yelled across the store at me ‘don’t blame me, blame the banks’ what a rude person! I mean how can I blame the banks for her stupid rude treatment of a paying customer. It’s such a shame cos the store actually has lots of cool old things.
