1st time climbers here!! Brought my 11 year old grandson with me! We had a blast! It was super easy to sign up and our instructor/guide was Maria. She was great and explained everything about the sport and made us comfortable! We will be back!!
I love this gym. The facilites are very new, well maintained and staff are fantastic. It would be great if they had auto belays, so I don’t have to find a partner every time I want to practice. It’s very limiting and doesn’t allow for improvised climbing sessions.
Shower Review: This is one of the best shower setups you can have. There are 3 shower stalls in the women’s bathroom (1 is an accessible stall) and they have attached changing rooms to the shower with locking stall doors. There is soap provided in the shower if you forgot your own and they provide towels for the sauna that can be used for the shower as well. Water was pretty warm and yeah, there is a sauna. Gym review: Fun climbing, lots of variety, the setting is fun and varied. Both ropes and bouldering. Extensive weights area for a climbing gym. A bit busy but it’s Bellevue, it is unavoidable and there were enough climbs available we were able to find something to climb without problems. Parking review: This is probably the biggest negative to this location. Shares a parking lot with a shopping mall so finding a spot was difficult and the spots are very narrow. If you are a vanlifer you are likely going to have to park quite a bit farther away, especially on busy evenings. There are some pull through spots but that is only useful if you visit during the less busy times of day.
Edgeworks is wonderful. I primarily climb at the Bellevue location but also frequent the Tacoma location when I am in the area. The staff is warm, genuine, and incredibly knowledgeable about all things climbing. I feel like this is a second home when I am there! I never feel intimidated as a new-ish climber to ask them questions about gear, technique, or etiquette. The space is respectful of all levels, ages, and bodies. I took a lead climbing class with Zach and he was knowledgeable and approachable with all class attendees. Shawn, Jacob, Nick F., and Brad are all wonderful humans to have there on staff. They offer fitness classes and have a top-notch lifting space (I say this as a fitness professional). They also take safety and cleanliness seriously; they don't joke around about belay safety so do not think you can come in a slack off--they have staff circulating and watching closely which is what we want for safe climbing spaces. They also walk the walk--I have not only seen employees climbing inside, but outside in local crags and in Vantage. They also know about Smith and other areas. I take my 5 year old daughter. Though they do not have a kids area there are PLENTY of 5.5's for her to explore and we never feel like she's unwelcome, in fact, she loves the staff and snacks in the pro-shop. I am pretty strict on the safety with my daughter and I have heard staff correct other families. They are on top of it. I love it here and hope to be part of the space for years to come! They make climbing so fun.
Love this gym! It’s a great place to hand out with friends with similar interests. Especially when it’s raining. We have been climbing for 2 years now. Every months they put on new routes, it’s sometime fun to climb something you don’t know the grade of. Sauna after the climb is a great addition. There are water stations to refill your bottle, and a working/meeting space if have to finish some online work.
