Great place for the kids to learn jisistu. Adam is an Excellent instructor! No regrets, your children will love it there. Granddaughter has been going since 5 years old and she is10 years old now. She really loves it and Adam too!
My two daughters and wife go here to learn BJJ. My youngest started when she was 6, and started in the Bulleyproof program and worked her way up to junior grapplers. What I appreciate is Adam (owner) approach to BJJ, yes it’s about defending yourself and knowing grappling but he focuses on mindset (integrity, accountability, self discipline) and also communication on how to de-escalate and avoid physical confrontation. If you have a young one, this is the place. My wife and 16 year old daughter do more woman empowerment, and I can see they are building self confidence to defend themselves. As a father and husband, I want to know that they are capable to protect themselves. The investment is worth the “peace of mind”. I would go, but work schedule doesn’t permit it, and I’m a proud 2nd Amendment supporter.
I’m not one to write reviews, but I have to leave some words of praise for GJJ Phoenix. My son tried jiu-jitsu in another state at a non-Gracie gym for about two months and had a really poor experience, so we were really nervous when we signed him up here when he was finally ready to try again. Thankfully, GJJ exceeded my expectations. When they introduce you to the class on your first day, they say they’re like a family there and they really mean it. I was worried none of the more experienced kids would want to help my kid, but so many eagerly volunteered to help him on his first day. After his first class, he couldn’t stop telling me how kind and helpful his partner was and how different it was from his prior experience with jiu-jitsu. Most of his partners have been yellow/white belts who have been amazing partners and happy to help him with the moves they’re learning, and never make him feel bad for not being very skilled yet. Both the adult and junior instructors are amazing and patient with helping the kids when they’re struggling with the moves, and there’s plenty of them to support the whole class. It’s been such a different experience for us than where we tried before and I am so grateful my son gets to be a part of the GJJ Phoenix family. The staff/instructors are incredibly welcoming- every class, they greet both of us by name. The other parents are kind and welcoming as well, I almost always have a great conversation with someone new when I attend with my son. I also appreciate that you can tell that the instructors are passionate about what they do and really believe in the practices they are teaching. A lot of people when they turn their passion into a career lose that, but that’s not the case here. If you’re wanting to try jiu-jitsu, I can’t recommend taking a ten day trial and experiencing it for yourself enough. My son’s experience was so great that after talking about trying jiu-jitsu myself for the past 5 years or so, I joined myself. I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience in the combatives class either- I genuinely look forward to going, so much that after originally signing up for only 8 sessions a month I quickly upgraded to 12 (and plan to upgrade again when I can). TLDR- GJJ Phoenix is a great place to start your journey with jiu-jitsu. If you’ve been wanting to try it out, there’s no where better to go, and with them offering a ten days trial with a loaner Gi included, you really have nothing to lose.
Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Phoenix is a wonderful place to learn jiu-jitsu. The curriculum is structured in a way that makes it much easier to learn. The instructors are fantastic! They are very knowledgeable and great teachers. Fellow students and instructors are very supportive of new students looking to get started in the sport. I can’t recommend Gracie Jiu-Jitsu enough!
