I have been taking violin lessons here for about 6 months, after playing for a year on my own. Within the first month, I had improved significantly and after 6 months, I am able to play several intermediate songs that have been on my list to learn for a long time. Jennifer Terrell is a fantastic teacher and has been instrumental (pun intended) in helping to guide my practice and grow my proficiency. To get where I am now would have have taken several years without lessons, if I made it that far at all. As an adult student, starting lessons was the hard part. After that, Jenny has made the process a delight. If you want to learn your first (or next) instrument, I recommend looking no further.

I received a gift certificate to Highlands Music Academy for Christmas last year. I'm was recently retired and have always wanted to learn to play the piano. I was a little apprehensive about starting something like this as an older adult but Highlands has been wonderful. I was very fortunate to have been assigned to Chris D. as my instructor. He is a very talented musician as well as instructor. He has been very patient with me and has always been very positive with his feedback and approach. I feel I have made good progress and I owe it all to Chris. I highly recommend Highland and Chris if you want to learn to play a musical instrument.

I’ve had both my daughters take piano lessons with Chris Dehner and one also does voice with Julie McKnight. Chris has been the most patient and supportive teacher for my youngest who is autistic. He is a fabulous teacher, has improved her musical skills and knowledge and the talent of all his students awes me at every recital. My youngest also sings with Julie and loves going to lessons every week. She made a personal connection and helped tremendously with my daughter’s confidence.

We love Ms Kate. She is an incredible violin teacher to our daughter who started with her when she was 7 years old. Kate uses Disney references and kid friendly language. We love that she uses Suzuki method. We also love that highlands music academy offers virtual lessons if we can’t make it to the office due to illness or weather.

I take violin lessons with Kate and she's the bomb. She knows her stuff and is kind and compassionate enough to make learning the instrument safe and fun. I'm a former university music student so I really appreciate the safe and fun piece- I've had enough tearing my hair out about upcoming recitals. Speaking of recitals, having those through the academy has been really fun too. I'm one of a handful of adult students and the majority are kids; it's encouraging to see fellow grownups showing that it's never too late to learn something new, and fun to see the kids catching on and progressing from one recital to the next. Recommend all around!
