Ideal venue for celebrations, offering a historic and refined environment for groups and intimate gatherings.
It was a bit squishy for 5 but they came and rearranged the tables and it was then fine. The chicken buns, the scones, the thing with popcorn on top and the egg sangers were all top quality. Good value for the price.
Hopetoun Tea Rooms is always highly recommended and a must-do whenever you’re in Melbourne. On this visit, we decided to try some savoury food along with the sweets, and overall it did not disappoint. The desserts were on the heavier side but still very enjoyable. The pasta was a little sour for my liking, and the service was slightly slow, however the overall experience was still very good. A beautiful spot for both sweet and savoury cravings, and one I would happily return to again.
Lovely experience that dazzles the eyes with its atmosphere. The snow white tea was delectable and the pavlova was neither poor nor impressive. I appreciate that it is a cozy environment located in a beautiful arcade. For the selection that it offers, it was all around a pleasant experience. I have had much worse experices in London with a higher price.
This is an institution in Melbourne! Located in beautiful block arcade … stunning high-tea, and if you’re after something not quite so decadent try there Devonshire tea! Amazing place, full of class!
Let’s begin with the basics, this place doesn’t seem to understand the difference between high tea and afternoon tea, which is unfortunately all too common in Australia. It would be worth brushing up on the definitions before making bold claims. If you’re someone who values the authenticity of British traditions, consider yourself warned. The venue itself is tiny, truly difficult to find, and sadly, any sense of elegance or refinement is lost the moment you step inside. A handful of tables were occupied, none of them particularly clean, and the overall atmosphere was one of a place in decline. It feels poorly maintained, with no effort made to live up to the sophistication typically associated with a proper afternoon tea experience. To their credit, there is a decent tea selection. Thank you for that. However, the dessert offering was minimal, and what was there looked rather tired and uninviting. The staff were friendly and polite, which was a small redeeming feature, but unfortunately not enough to salvage the experience. In short, if you’re up for a bit of a challenge or enjoy novelty over quality, give it a go. Otherwise, you might be better off elsewhere.
