I popped in here on my last day in portland before heading back home. I was with my friend and her daughter. I stopped to look at the jewelry and found a few pieces. I grabbed a total of 6 pieces…..two of the pieces I grabbed were broken. Those broken pieces were $4 and $3, the other two pieces I grabbed, bracelets, were $5 and $7. I then grabbed two earring both $5. So the total should be $24. Imagine my surprise, especially since portland is a tax free state to look at my receipt and see $41. I don’t notice this insane jump until now, i’m already on my train heading out of state. I’m inclined to think this was purposeful based on the interactions I had in the store. Workers brush pass you almost knocking you over and when I finally get to the cashier I say, “hello” to be greeted with nothing back. (never looks at me this whole interaction) The cashier says “this it?” I say “yes”. They rang up my stuff and were putting the stickers that held the price on a paper. After scanning everything they say “card?” i’m assuming since i’m holding out my phone they knew card so no issue. Now, when I go to look at the screen to see the total, because the total hadn’t popped up on the screen nor had the individual amounts popped up, they click something so that it confirms the total amount. My friends daughter had been running up to me and messing with me so I wasn’t paying attention. I also wasn’t assuming they were trying to steal. Here’s what I will say, and take this how you will in 2026, I’m an alt black woman. Entering stores where they have all these posters and signs saying they’re for the people and support everyone, is cool but it’s not impossible to have people working in those establishments who don’t hold those beliefs. Everyone needs a job times are hard. I noticed a few other reviews where people complained about the service and the response from the owner was along the lines of, “they’re individual vendors we don’t control them sorry”. While this is understandable, the people you allowed in your store interacting with customers reflects your business. I don’t know who that cashier was a vendor for, all I know was that as a result of them I was charged extra and had an uncomfortable interaction, similar to those i’ve had many times in my life. If my friends or peers at school were to say “omg you went to portland, how were the vintage spots how were the thrift stores?” I would tell them to fully avoid this place and be honest about my experience. (i assume others will read this review and have their opinions. black people/ other minorities know exactly what i’m talking about when I say sometimes these signs don’t necessarily reflect the experience you’ll have when you go in there. i’m not making this post to debate possible racism mainly to say make sure you’re paying attention incase this is a repeat case.)

For tourists or when out of town family wants to go “thrifting on Hawthorne.” Lockers to put your stuff which is nice. Have found some random objects that spark joy here, but mostly overpriced Levi’s 501s. We’re past that!!!

Aisles were incredibly inaccessible. It is organised for aesthetics, which is great if you’re a vogue size 0 but horrible for literally everyone else. Wide selections sure, but overpriced. I found dry rot…. And it gets better! I also got dripped on in one of the numerous cubbies of the store. Very disappointed.

Found an AMAZING Garth Brooks tee for a steal!! Was in a huge rush so only had about 15 mins to look around while visiting Portland; but this was my second favorite thrifting stop besides the bins!! You guys have an amazing concept and I will certainly be back!!

Went to buy a cheap necklace and the man charged me $30 for it. They were super rude. Every item was like $30-50 and they are pre-used. Not designer and not washed items. Worst place I’ve been
