Based on my personal experience in a Utah family court case, I found the Guardian ad Litem’s approach to be one-sided. Despite submitting evidence and raising specific concerns, I did not see those materials meaningfully addressed. It appeared to me that the GAL relied primarily on information provided by one parent, which raised concerns for me about whether the investigation fully considered both sides. Given the importance of neutrality and thoroughness in a GAL’s role, this was disappointing and concerning. Parents considering this GAL may want to be proactive in confirming how evidence will be evaluated and how balanced input from both parents will be ensured.
