Being part of the Kadampa Meditation Center community has shown me that it truly is possible to stay calm and happy, no matter the circumstances. As surprising as it may sound, I’ve never seen anyone unhappy there. To me, it feels like an oasis in the middle of the desert—a peaceful, serene place where everyone is striving to become the best version of themselves and always ready to support one another.

It's easy to miss walking past, but this little gem of a place is like a pocket of peacefulness in a super busy and lively part of town. Everyone is super friendly, and they seem to go out of their way to make new-comers comfortable. The space itself is small, but very peaceful -- just big enough for the classes they do, plus a hangout area and a small shop area with meditation essentials. The classes are always really practical and easy to understand. The teachers make a point of connecting things to everyday situations, often with a warm sense of humor, so that my time there helps out for days and days afterward. I'm not enlightened yet :) ... but I've been able to become someone who has fewer and fewer "yuk" days, and more and more "yay" days. Right now, they're doing all their classes live online because of the pandemic -- which makes it super easy to connect to tons of classes.
It was a delight to discover the center. I started with one small program and that quickly built up to going several times a week. I'm more calm and clear (and keeps getting better). Things that use to disturb me seem minor or often become positive in that they present opportunities to be more peaceful. The teachings are simple and yet profound. Easy to understand. And Gen Dorje's humor, good heart, and wonderful stories add to the whole experience. I love it there.
I attend weekly classes here and absolutely love it! The teachers are wonderful and I've learned so much, and become a calmer, kinder person because of it :) Very welcoming and open, even to someone with no experience of meditation or Buddhism. Check it out!
