Had my FIRST session today with Ruben and it was great! I chose Ruben (and Kindred Dog) because I needed a very skilled, balanced dog trainer who could quickly see where my dog and I are at, help us overcome some plateaus and gaps, and start figuring out the whole picture of some behavior stuff we are working through. Definitely found all this and more in Ruben. He was kind, gentle, safe, and trustworthy! I felt very comfortable with him in my home and my dog (and kid) loved him immediately. Got great insight into immediate action steps to take and also some larger picture tweaks that need to be made. So excited to continue on this journey and watch Freckles and I blossom!
Ruben and Shane are great! Our dog went from sweet, but chaotic, to sweet, confident, and calm. The personal classes really helped fix a lot of the mistakes we were making as owners, we got ready feedback from the videos and tips between classes, and the group classes developed a dog that stays calm when other dogs are active. Pepper is a dog that needed direction, and now she's a perfect pup.
We think Ruben is amazing and has given us so many helpful ways to help with this puppy! She was only about 8 months when we started. She is still a puppy for sure!!! But, we have so many options and good ways to teach and work with her. He seems to me like a dog whisperer. Again, I would recommend him to anyone! Joanna and Doug
Ruben + Kindred Dog made all the difference! We adopted a 2.5 year old bully name Levi this spring. We have owned dogs in the past, but after our first few days with Levi I realized we needed help! Levi would jump and nip at me when I was walking around the house and would pull so hard on the leash I was worried about a shoulder injury. We hired Ruben for private lessons and after just the the first few lessons we had a totally different dog. Ruben is a great listener and problem solver. We just completed our 5th private lessons. Levi is now a perfect gentleman around the house even with company, has great recall, knows how to play, and doesn't pull on the leash. The foundations we have in place will allow us to give Levi a great life. Looking forward to continuing our training in group classes. Thank you Ruben!!
Transformative Experience with Kindred Dog When we first started the course with Kindred Dog, we had high hopes to simply get the basics down with our 90 lb golden retriever, Chencho. He was completely spoiled, all over the place, jumping on everyone, reactive to other dogs, and just not listening. Every situation involving him was becoming a source of stress for our family. From the very first class, Ruben shifted my entire perspective. He helped me see that it wasn’t Chencho ignoring me—it was me not communicating clearly. I realized I was constantly yelling his name and saying "no" without any structure or guidance for him to follow. Ruben’s approach was calm, empowering, and incredibly effective. After just one session, things started to click. And by the end of the five-class course, the transformation in both Chencho and myself was undeniable. Chencho now looks at me with focus, responds quickly to my commands, and we’ve found a rhythm together that I never thought possible. Ruben didn’t just train my dog—he taught me how to be the kind of leader and communicator my dog needed. He helped me step into my role with confidence, and I’m now enjoying a completely new and joyful relationship with Chencho.
