Our server was lovely and that’s the last good thing I have to say about this restaurant. I rarely leave reviews and when I do they’re typically positive, so with that context, I felt particularly compelled to write this poor review. The cocktails were completely overly sweet and artificial tasting, the Orenji Roll was utterly DRENCHED in what tasted like the sauce that is typically served with Crab Rangoons. Again, just unnecessarily super sweet and really off putting flavor profile. The LA girl something or other roll was honestly just BIZARRE tasting, and for the life of me I can’t place what was so totally wrong about it. I asked what the sauce was for the roll (which wasn’t listed on the menu description) to see if that was it, but was told it was spicy mayo… it honestly tasted like some weird truffle aioli?? The dessert we had was the best thing we ordered, which should be all you need to know to decide not to come here, given it was a French dish (caramelized pear crepes) served at a restaurant supposedly serving Japanese cuisine. That this place has such high reviews for such a not insignificant price point boggles the mind— particularly when there are SO many fantastic Japanese restaurants in LA. Perhaps the largest share of blame lies with me then, for picking this place to go for a late birthday dinner among all the other fantastic options. (Oh and that’s the last slightly irking thing about the whole experience— my boyfriend made us the reservation and said he mentioned it was my birthday. I’m not expecting every restaurant to hand out a free dessert for your birthday nor does that even merit a complaint/poor review, but taken together with the rest of the bad experience and lack of acknowledgement about the special occasion, it warrants a mention. Maybe not the place to go for a celebratory event! (Or at all!)
First time eating sushi and it was incredible. Very upscale restaurant but the food matched. It was fresh and delicious. I am no expert on Sushi but we had great service. It was almost immediately that an empty plate was cleared from our table which was impressive. A must visit if you love sushi and are in LA!
It's definitely the best modern fusion Japanese we had in the USA by a long shot. Exquisite taste and the price reflects this. Food is very fresh and the cocktails are quite good. People watching is 10/10 and the ambiance is fantastic for a date. I liked their rendition of 'Nobu style' miso black cod as well!
The food here is really good — and that’s coming from someone who’s super picky. But what really stood out was the top-tier service. I’m someone who pays attention to the little details, and I noticed that the edamame excess plate never sat on our table for more than two minutes — the staff kept clearing and replacing it without us having to ask. Our server was also super helpful and attentive. Overall, a great experience!
Went to Koi for my husbands birthday, and it was an amazing experience. From the moment we were welcomed to the moment we left, the service was exceptional. The menu has something for everyone, including a whole separate vegan menu (which we appreciated). The cocktails were tasty. Our group got a range dishes, including a vegan dragon roll, vegan steak, yellowtail roll, lobster tacos and shishito peppers - all incredible! We were stuffed but had to get a birthday dessert, so we went for the vegan sundae which was presented beautifully and delicious. Lastly, the ambiance was nice - not too loud, spacious tables, chill atmosphere. Will definitely be coming back here!
