The menu is fantastic. It’s perfectly balanced for both American palates and Mexican palates. Some items are geared towards what Americans expect Mexican food to be and taste like, an other items are tailored to be authentic Mexican cuisine that any native Mexican will enjoy. I didn’t expect to find “pescadillas” or “huitlacoche” on the menu. It was a pleasant surprise. Highly recommend!
We visited this Mexican restaurant to celebrate a dear friend’s engagement. It came highly recommended, and for the most part, the food and atmosphere were quite enjoyable. We were a group of six, and everyone was happy with their meals until the check arrived. We noticed we had been charged for two orders of nachos when we had only ordered one. It turned out the single portion of nachos had been split into two plates, which we assumed was just a serving style. When we brought this up to the waitress, she got the manager involved. Unfortunately, the manager approached us in a very rude and confrontational manner, essentially accusing us of trying to get away without paying for what we ate. We tried to explain that we only ordered one nacho, but he didn’t listen. Worse still, without asking us, he grabbed the to-go box containing those nachos, and part of my friend’s untouched meal, and threw it away. This was not just disrespectful; it was a complete waste of perfectly good food. There was no offer to resolve the situation reasonably, no apology for the misunderstanding just an assumption that we were in the wrong and a really poor way of handling it. In short, while the food was good, the way the management treated us over a simple billing error left a terrible taste. I hope they reconsider how they handle customer concerns in the future.
Go for: Some of the best Mexican food in Boston at reasonable prices. Avoid if: You didn't arrive hungry. You'll leave feeling satisfied, regardless. Something surprising: The beautiful colors, murals, and decor truly typical of Mexico and unique in the city. Reservation needed? Not usually. There may be a very short wait depending on the size of your party. Overall Experience: 4/5. After eating here multiple times, every single dish has been great, with flavors that suggest they actually made most (if not all) of the dishes from scratch. They even serve breakfast. Most importantly, the service is always friendly and welcoming - you'll definitely want to return again and again. Paid for a chicken quesadilla and only got cheese, they also forgot the sour cream which I was looking forward to having with my chicken quesadilla but anyway… when I called and let them know there was no chicken the host/receptionist asked the chef if he put chicken and he said yes and later said that he saw him put chicken in my quesadilla but there is none. He kept calling me a liar and that I can come back to the restaurant to pick up MORE chicken when it never even came with any. With no manager available there wasn’t anything he said he could do. I was looking forward to coming back to this place because it’s super cute and I like the guacamole but he was very disrespectful. I’m disappointed and will not be coming back here unfortunately.
I looked up the translation for Alebrijes - sculptures of fantastical creatures. The restaurant lived to its fantastical name! I met a friend who will be flying out of Logan by the Maverick T station. I arrived early to scout for a nice restaurant to dine and to chat. Los Alebrijes place has very cute exterior and even nicer interior decor and ambiance so that was where I brought my friend. The bathroom was pristine and the waitresses were very friendly. The food was freshly made and tasted so good, for a reasonable price! It made up for a nice reunion with my friend over late lunch before she was off to Logan. Gracias Los Alebrijes.
