I was charged in federal court in Washington, D.C. in 2011 under facts that could easily have led to a mandatory-minimum 10-year sentence, with the government threatening leadership enhancements. Nikki Lotze achieved an extraordinary result: a four-year sentence, of which I served just under three years after completing RDAP and good time — and this was a non-cooperation disposition. I also credit her for recommending the perfect lawyer to represent my ex-roommate, who was indicted in a BS effort to pressure him to testify against me. Her judgment in assembling the right team helped him stay steady, and gave us the time, credibility, and stability needed to reach an amazing outcome. Thanks to Nikki, my federal sentence was more like a pause to readjust my attitude and priorities than the end of my life. My case outcome was so favorable, it was often difficult to convince people I hadn't cooperated. But the truth is: Nikki is that good.
