Great coach, great environment, great fighters love this gym
I came into this gym and was impressed by the no-nonsense coach. He seemed alright. Then I asked if I could spar and he evidently took offense to this. He didn't show any indication of his anger to me at the time. I pushed and pushed to spar with someone on my own experience level. After getting me to explain myself he told me I could. The coach wrapped up my gloves, told me to get into the ring, then got in himself and told me to put my gloves up. I was confused but started to spar with him. I have never boxed, have never trained boxing, and I had already told him this when I started. He of course beat me in sparring, and after he had done this proceeded to yell at me that "you cant walk in here with balls in this gym". I noted during the sparring, that he also was wearing a stomach guard of some sort, while he had given me no such gear. It was my third time ever being in a boxing gym. He had told everyone that he had many fights on an amateur level. My opinion of this gym is that its an ego inflator for the coach. The only regulars here are teenaged males, and he bullies them as much as he can. He doesn't explain technique, he keeps it like a well guarded secret that he leaks out in pieces to the guys that suck up to him the most. I wouldn't recommend going here if you are serious about learning boxing, but that's just me.
Great Gym, Great people, Great Coach, Great space. This place means more to me than a Simple Boxing gym. If you want to find a new hobby and or met new people this is the number one place I’d recommend. You’ll gain mental confidence and physical by coming here if you don’t sell yourself short by skipping days and days on end, that’s not to say I show up everyday though because Boxing makes Weight lifting seem like Rest Day but I average 4 to 6 days a week. I also read Meaghan Rose’s 1 out of 5 star Review fully and at least 96% of her complaints were either her misunderstanding of what a Boxing gym is or straight up wrong because she was unaware of the full story or what really goes down. Anyways Sign yourself up here asap, we’d be happy to see you here. Take it easy, PEACE.
David is a good trainer, not a good coach however if you plan to take boxing seriously. He talks baldly about his fighters behind their backs when they don’t meet his expectations of them. Instead of meeting people where they are at, he expects them to be where he thinks they “need” to be to obtain their goals. Which is very concerning considering he never reached his goal of pro boxer but seems to think he can get others there without proper training? He claims he missed his shot to go pro because of a car accident and hasn’t boxed in over 10 years… and the car he claims is the one he crashed was posted all over his page up until 2020, I even looked him up to find any type of records for his fights. Found NOTHING. Checked his Facebook page and his family, found ONE picture of him in the ring with his hands up in the air like he just won a fight. Which he very well might have done, but he constantly came up with excuses as to why he couldn’t provide proof of his credentials or fighting experience after asking on multiple separate occasions. He only just became certified as a coach July 16th, 2023. We have worked with many accredited professional coaches in the past and have asked their opinions on how David conducts his business without telling them who we were asking about to get unbiased professional opinions and every last one of them called him a fraud and say he is going to get his boxers hurt and doesn’t know what he is doing. The first fight he took one of his own fighters to was not a good look compared to how that fighter looks in the gym because he doesn’t know what to tell them as their coach or corner in a fight. And the former golden gloves state champion of Wisconsin was the announcer at this fight and claims David’s boxer looked brand new when he’s been training for 2+ years before even going to David’s gym… David also does very well in the first week of you attending his gym, but after that you are on your own. (Heard him say that to a new boxer with my own ears) My husband asked David many times what he needed to work on to progress as a boxer, and David never gave a specific answer outside of “come to the gym man” “gotta be in the gym every day brother”. My husband is a disabled veteran, college student, and father, which David was fully aware of and not at all understanding of his situation when he couldn’t be in the gym every day but was still training at home in our gym every single day. It got to the point where I was going to every training session my husband went to at David’s gym to watch and tell him what he needed to work on since the coach seemingly can’t. We even worked the mitts and other things to train as David never took the time to work individually with him.
Came here on opening week, and the gym is pristine 👌 I was visiting for work around Madison and found this gym, which was the best boxing gym I’ve been in! The owner is a great guy with lots of knowledge around boxing and training. I will be visiting whenever I come back into town 👍
