I honestly can’t believe this studio has negative reviews. I have been practicing yoga for over a decade and the reason I keep coming back to this one is because of Ajax, the owner, and the community built around the studio. I have only ever had amazing experiences. Ajax is personal, makes me feel good about myself and is so knowledgable about what each pose is giving you and makes you feel empowered going to class. I can’t tell you how deeply I appreciate this studio and the community she has built here.
Unfortunately I have to join the chorus of other reviews here reporting negative experiences with the owner of this business. My experience with the owner was brief, yet striking - in the worst possible way. I came to join someone for the class and immediately was told I would have to buy water from her to join. Never was bringing water mentioned on the registration site as a requirement for entering the class. I am an experienced trekker have trekked for weeks around the world and even climbed a mountain in the Himalayas and I know I do not do well drinking water while exercising as it makes me nauseous, and all my professional guides/Sherpa on my travels have understood that and that everyone has different needs. Somehow, Adrianne "Ajax"Jackson the owner believes she knows better about what others need for their bodies than they do. As a woman, I do not accept anyone telling me they know my own body better than I do. I refused the water and she said "maybe next time" in a tone dripping with condescension. The entire interaction was extremely unprofessional, rude, and condescending. I do not tolerate trashy business practices or trashy people when I am paying to do a class. Sorry to say, Ajax, but you are the one whose business depends on reviews so you are only hurting yourself by acting the way you do. Let this be a warning to all who consider this place. This owner has multiple reviews including my own about her behavior. There are way better options close by in the city (Free to Be Power Yoga and Yes Yoga are nearby and both have 4.5+ stars on Google and have been in business as long or longer than this place). Buyers beware.
I love supporting New Orleans’ first black-owned yoga studio and have been taking classes here for several years. Every teacher that I have had the pleasure of learning from has something special to offer: Amber, Kaelyn, Ciara, Gisele, Andre, & Josiah, and Ajax the owner. Ajax has created such a wonderful space for the community. She runs frequent specials for new members and offers discounts to students, educators, first responders, and others. Classes for people on all schedules. Come sweat it out with us. You won’t be disappointed.
I attended the New Years Day class at Hotel Peter and Paul and had a wonderful experience overall. The event space, a former cathedral, was gorgeous and the community that the studio owner Ajax and Magnolia cultivated was warm and welcoming. Ajax took the time to welcome me and inquire about my health (I was recovering from a recent foot surgery so was somewhat nervous to join a group class) but my nerves were instantly eased by her calm demeanor and confidence. A few times she called folks out for being on their phone or taking pictures but I believe this was to ensure that the group felt comfortable and that the sacredness of a yoga class was fully respected. As a NYC studio owner I highly recommend Magnolia Yoga and hope to return when back in Nola.
Beautiful studio, well spoken and challenging instructors, and kind and responsive owner. Magnolia Yoga Studio is one of my favorite charms or New Orleans. As I guest in this town for the next few weeks, the owner Ajax made signing up for classes simple and the vibes were so welcoming in her studio! Thank you for putting so much love into your business! 🙏
