I visited this shop yesterday, excited to browse the antiques and learn more about them. Unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. As soon as I walked in, I felt dismissed by the man working there. When I asked a question, he brushed it off, opened his Red Bull, and gave a very uninterested response, as if he couldn’t be bothered. What made this worse was the contrast between how he acted with the customer leaving just before me—he was cheerful and friendly with them, but his attitude toward me was completely different. As a woman of colour, I couldn’t help wondering whether there was something about me he didn’t like, because I certainly didn’t feel welcome. It’s a shame, because I genuinely enjoyed looking at the antiques and would have loved to learn more. Instead, I felt uncomfortable and wanted to leave as quickly as possible.

We came across this shop and were fascinated at all the gems it had to offer. David was friendly, and anytime we had a question about an item, he would thoroughly explain.

I went into Mark Sullivan’s Antique shop with no expectation and came out marking it the best experience of my trip. Mark is so wonderful, generous, kind and knowledgeable. We talked about my work in AI and how I want to leave tech and pursue a career in the arts, he gave me wonderful advice and made me feel so empowered. I bought a few miniature portraits and loved listening to him tell me the history and origins of each one. Everyone that came into the store felt so welcome and felt Mark’s warmth. Thank you so much, Mark! I’ll be seeing you again!

This ‘Yankee’ from the Big Apple enjoyed her shopping (and related) experience at Mr Sullivan’s store on a brief trip to London! Great store filled with unique, antique items with something for everyone; caters to diverse interests and hobbies. Mr Sullivan is very knowledgeable and full of interesting information about the sale items. He’s also super friendly and hospitable even to someone as broke as me (I just bought a small cricket memento)! The other customers were very nice and chatty as well. If I visit London again, am definitely popping in here once more!

I came back to Cecil St because last time I visited London the shops were closed. Marks Antiques was the last shop I popped into. So many beautiful things to see. I picked out a Queen Victoria mug I liked and started chatting with Mark. He was very sweet and offered me a cup of tea. While I was standing chatting I saw on the counter a letter seal that caught my eye. So I asked about it Mark told me he had just sourced it in France the evening before and where it came from. Love knowing the history of where my beautiful items come from. He wrapped them extra well for my plane home. Thanks for the exceptional service. Can’t wait to come back and see what new items you have when I’m back in London.
