I was strolling around Little Italy this evening and randomly wandered into Mee’s art gallery. Her work is mesmerizing and her kindness is as a beautiful as her art. I’ve never felt compelled to bring a good quality print home before and her art got me to do it. Her gallery’s worth going out of your way for, or even as a break in between a busy schedule while you’re in the neighborhood.
When I first met Mee and visited her Gallery- I immediately eyed and could not stop thinking of Blue Breath of Nature. Being a passionate lover of being on the water, an avid swimmer and a scuba diver it spoke to me. Several years later- I bought the original. I gladly paid asking price and would have never thought to ask for a “better price”. I have since added her Aluminums, Steel Rounds, and Framed Reprints. Her art is breath-taking. She pours her heart, soul, mind, imagination and then finally her talent as a LIFE LONG Passion (& Wayne State MFA Educated Artist) -to bring an image to canvas. Art isn’t for everyone & Mee’s Gallery is free admission to view her heart, soul, and lifelong passion. She’s been in same location for 13+ years. Not many businesses- who make millions, and millions more- can even say that – especially on India Street. Please don’t ask for discounts when she spends at times months on a piece or you don’t understand the background details. Don’t ask for pricing favors- like no tax- Mee Shim has to pay it on sales & so should you as buyer. And lastly- don’t be rude, loud, obnoxious, disregarding her posting for “No Photos”. Again this is her heart and soul- and she is an open, free Gallery for people to admire and perhaps grow with seeing her works. If you Love her Art- Tell Her, and Purchase an Original. If you don’t connect, the open door you came thru is still open to leave thru. Be KIND- It will be better Karma than some Negative One Star Review you provide- and most important remember- The entire experience is Zero COST to you whether you loved it or otherwise. Her Gallery is a welcomed break from the hustle of restaurants, and Her Passion and Enthusiasm surround the visitor. Please visit- you’ll be glad you did.
Love ❤ the art - a gorgeous mixture of real & surreal... I was reading 1 of the walls out loud to my spouse (on Mee Shim's background)... & a lady in the back corner room said something to me which startled me & made me jump since I hadn't noticed her earlier lol. I perused over all the art pieces & ended up in the back corner room... I suddenly & surprisingly noticed all the art supplies (paint, brushes etc) in the far corner so asked the lady if she was the artist & she indeed was! I'd assumed she was just the friendly receptionist so it was lovely to meet Mee Shim in person. I told her I'd found her in google & her gallery was a top 10 attraction for San Diego 😁👍
I love Mee's Art. I was happy to be able to purchase a small piece. Such a beautiful gallery as well. I highly recommend visiting. I do Not love the pushy sales lady though. She ruins the experience and has no respect for boundaries.
In my work as a freelance journalist, I experience the great privilege of interviewing very talented San Diego artists. Sarah Stieber is one, and she just opened a three-week Summer Gallery at Mee Shim Fine Art. Her magical paintings depict what she calls "electric realism," and this particular show features painted portraits of women's faces to counter the much-too-often display of faceless and headless female bodies in ads and artworks.
