I made reservations well in advance so we could enjoy dinner before a comedy show at Chase Center. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations. When we arrived, there was no host at the door for nearly five minutes. Not a huge issue, but surprising for an upscale restaurant. We were seated upstairs with a nice view and ordered cocktails and appetizers. The appetizers arrived quickly—before our drinks even showed up. It took about 45 minutes to receive our first round of cocktails. I had asked our server to put in a second round while he was “checking” on the first, but he waited until the first set finally arrived before doing so. The appetizers themselves were excellent. The beef tartare on bone marrow was delicious, and while the oysters were just okay this time, I’ve had better here before. The service, however, continued to decline. We had ordered mac and cheese as a side with our main course, but it never arrived at any point during the meal. Our server didn’t mention it, didn’t apologize, and clearly didn’t even remember we ordered it. After more than an hour, we still hadn’t received our second round of cocktails or our mains. Our server told us he was going to personally check on everything. The drinks finally arrived, and when I asked if I had time to step outside for a quick smoke before the food came out, he told me it was already “up” and about to be served. Moments later, I watched him walk past us holding a hamburger and deliver it to another table without saying a word. Then he disappeared for another 15–20 minutes. When my burger finally showed up, it was completely overcooked—well done, even though I ordered it medium-rare. The manager offered to replace it, but after waiting an hour and a half already, I didn’t have time. She ultimately comped the meal, which I appreciated, but the overall experience was still extremely disappointing. To make matters worse, I saw Tyler Florence taking photos with customers and heading out to the same show. As the owner, you’d expect him to ensure the restaurant was running smoothly—especially on a busy event night. My first visit to Miller & Lux was great, and the food is clearly high quality. But this experience really soured things. The explanation given was that a large crowd came in before the show—yet being located in a venue, this restaurant should be prepared for exactly that. Tonight, they weren’t.
Came here for dinner before a show at the chase arena… very pretty. Everyone greets you and welcomes you in. Staff were very attentive. We ordered some appetizers and the table side Caesar salad which was delicious. My husband ordered the filet and I ordered the chicken dish. His steak came out cold. Ice cold. We sent it back and they brought back a new one pretty quickly which he enjoyed. Our side dishes that we ordered also came out wrong, but again were corrected quickly. At the end of the dinner he ordered a to go chocolate cake to be added to our food that we had packed up to go… when we swung by after the show to pick up our food (which is nice they offered to hold it for us) the chocolate cake was NOT in our to go bag. At that point they had already closed so we didn’t even bother asking about it. Overall the experience was fine, just not Michelin star level which we saw it was on the Michelin guide… eh. lol maybe we will try again?
We love coming to Miller and Lux for great date nights and special occasions! The speakeasy style space filled with jazz music and fancy detailing make for a fine dining experience that feels fun and comfortable. The staff are always wonderful and attentive, and they have a sommelier that starts the night off with selections from their champagne cart. They always have amazing steak options with excellent add-ons like the mac and cheese, tuna tartare, and surf and turf options. We will definitely continue coming back!
Absolutely fantastic dinning experience! The staff worked well as a team. The food was well presented and everything was fabulous. The 52oz wagyu tomahawk was cooked perfect. What’s more impressive is the Dover Sole prepared table side. The expensive flat fish is flown in every two days from Paris. Meeting Tyler Florence is always a great experience. Miller and Lux is hands down the best steakhouse in the Bay Area.
An amazing experience from the valet to the hostess on the way out. Manuel our server was excellent, the sommelier suggested excellent wine pairings and food was spectacular! I had the Lobster risotto, we shared a Caesar and my wife had the burger. Caesar and the risotto were quite memorable. The only misses were the burger was slightly over cooked and the fries were not hot. The was a bit surprising, as the restaurant wasn't busy at that hour. We will return.
