The campus; the studios, the faculty, the students, the Art, are all first rate! And then the is the location. Adjacent to the Minneapolis institute of Art or MIA which is a wonderful art museum, right down down the street from the Walker Art Center which is an excellent contemporary Art Museum/resource complete with the late great Siah Armajani’s fantastic poetry bridge that takes one over and or back from the lovely Lorring Park where there is much to see and do.
As other institutions slowly climb out of the pandemic, this one took a hit its going to flourish from. The very tactile in-person classes, the awesome professors, and the wonderful atmosphere make this a great college. If it goes back to online its line two stars, most of the classes literally don't work online.
I've had the opportunity to visit museums the world over. MIA has a couple of things going for it: a superb collection of interesting portraiture and landscapes by early American artists, and a really superb collection of Chinese porcelain and tapastries -- some of it quite ancient, beautiful, and in superb condition. The building is big, but not overwhelming -- you can see everything comfortably in an afternoon and not wear yourself out doing so. HINT: The Gift Shop is a great place to purchase Christmas and high end "special someone" gifts. And it's free!!!
I attended the Pre-College Summer Session in 2017 here at MCAD and I love every minute of it. The campus is perfect for all of our needs. The Art Cellar here is top notch and have everything from paints to pens to paper. Anything an art student would need at an affordable price. The Service Bearau here is also very good. The people there are super helpful in assisting me with my final project. The College Center here has a ping pong table as well a pool table & arcade machine. The campus is also very close to Nicollet Ave. so there is easy access to a bunch of restaurants and cafes.
A great place to see amazing work from unknown, little known, and well known artists. Also a great place to take adult continuing education classes in any visual arts discipline you could imagine, including things like furniture design and grant writing. Their instructors are second to none. Classes are a little spendy but well worth the money. It's safe to say that if you take a continuing education class here you will get significantly more than you pay for.

Where creativity meets career – shaping the next generation of visual artists and designers.
