Really nice staff. The staff helped me quickly and gave me a super fair price for my instrument, even when it was turned down by another instrument purchaser. I recommend this place and will be back!
Stopped in to see about trading in a bass guitar I was no longer playing. Dude behind the counter (don't know what his name was, short guy who looked like Leonard from the big bang theory) honestly seemed like he couldn't care less about helping me out. He gave me what even Helen Keller could determine was an intentional low ball offer of $50 dollars for my bass, as 30 minutes later I walked out of guitar center with $300 cash that I had received for the same bass. Music Go Round was offering store credit lol. Seems like they definitely depend on their customers not knowing the value of their instruments in order to turn a profit.
Michael is a phenomenal luthier (and also a great salesman considering I walked out with a whole new guitar I wasn't expecting to get! Although I regret nothing). It's obvious this is not just a business but guitars and music is a passion for himself and all the staff I interacted with as well. Music Go Round has gained a lifelong customer, and I look forward to going back! My Gibson Les Paul looks amazing and plays great after Michael's work, and the new tele I walked out with has been an absolute blast.
This place is a genuine anomaly. I cannot fathom how it has stayed in business over the last 10+ years. I stopped in during open week 2014 and continued to go somewhat regularly, but with the higher staff turnover and over 50% of the inventory being the same landfill waste as the previous times I've stopped in, I don't have any reason to go out of my way anymore. Every other music store in the area pays more for used gear and has more gear that musicians actually use. Deals are dead and the newish management seems to be the reason. The manager, Michael I believe, talks a big game but obviously makes up facts as he goes. I overheard him say something condescending to a coworker about a previous customer involving their sexuality. He replaced an eccentric guy also named Michael who had a service dog that wasn't actually a service dog according to him. Maybe it was there to scare off people even more. They're perpetually out of stock of many strings and sticks, which a previous reviewer mentioned and the manager had the nerve to lie about it in the comments here. New inventory has been rotting on the shelves for years. Vintage pieces are at collector prices with player grade wear or obvious repairs needing attention. Used stuff that comes in seems to have made-up prices. I observed cracks in several acoustic guitars in a supposedly humidified room without any indication as such on their price tags some time ago. Brought it up to the curly long hair that used to be around a lot and he just kinda shook his head cause he already knew and couldn't do anything about it. They continue to pay next to nothing on used gear, even bragging about it at times. They used to have a real solid crew I want to say back in 2018 or 2019 before things really went downhill. I remember a bald guy named Gary who was always pleasant, professional, and most importantly, honest. Another long hair named Marlon or something who really knew his stuff. There was a Derrick too that knew just about everything there and had advice for me every time. I miss those guys; must've moved on to real music stores elsewhere. I've met the owner a handful of times and he's a nice guy, but I don't think he has any interest in keeping the boat floating anymore. If he does, he might want to consider some top-down changes, because it's become just another corporate chain store filled with mediocrity and ennui.
