Beautiful property that is located about 10 minutes from the Riverwalk. We had originally booked the Oge Chinoiserie room. A couple of our friends thought about joining us on our trip, so when we checked online we were shocked that our room was showing as available for the dates we had booked. When I called the hotel to confirm the owner, Don, told me that they had someone else book the top two floors after we had already reserved our room and that they upgraded us to the Blenheim Suite instead. I was a bit bummed because I was looking forward to staying in the Oge Chinoiserie. However, I was trying to stay positive as the Blenheim Suite had more upgrades than our original room. Upon arrival we were then told that 2 out of the 4 nights we had booked we would be locked out of the top floors of the house, as they were now reserved for the private party. This was a bit upsetting as we were looking forward to spending time in that part of the house, and we were planning on using the amenities up there. When I brought my frustration to the Lisa, she ensured me that I had more amenities than I had originally paid for. While true, this is a hotel where you specifically hand pick a room that you want as each room is uniquely styled. Our suite was nice, but we would have been perfectly happy in the Oge Chinoiserie that we had booked, even with it being a smaller room. They ended up accommodating us by relocating some of the amenities to the downstairs sitting room which was very nice of them. Overall, we still enjoyed our stay. The pool across the street is lovely, the room was clean, the location was relatively close to the activities we had planned. The only other thing I would have preferred is for them to add the hot breakfasts back. I see that they used to serve it before COVID, but then they switched over to a continental breakfast that is served in your room. I would not mind paying more for a hot breakfast in the morning time. This would be a great amenity to bring back that would really put this place over the top!
Our experiences with period homes has been mixed. We like to support those who are trying to preserve history, so we give the historic homes and hotels a try. We are often disappointed but recognize the great expense to renovate, update, and maintain buildings that are old and not expected to accommodate fixtures and systems that we enjoy in our modern homes. Too many of our experiences have turned out a little disappointing, but not here at the Oge House. We loved understanding and living the history of this grand old home! The breakfast was worth getting up for, the beds were worth the anticipation. Our room was nice, cozy, and decorated well and held to the standards of the graceful old home they adorned. The staff was very friendly, but not interested in inserting themselves into our business unless we initiated the discussion. We liked that. Don and Lisle have a great home here and a great system to keep guests happy and comfortable. Thanks for a great stay and for supporting our fantastic week in San Antonio!
The staff was incredibly accommodating and friendly. It's a perfect location to walk to downtown or south-town activities by river. We rented out all the rooms in the carriage house for our group and the staff were great at accommodating our group of 9 for breakfast/sleep arrangements. Had to take away one star simply due to worn out furnishings and we had a toilet that continued to not flush despite the staff declaring it fixed. Otherwise a perfect stay. The pool next to the carriage house came in very handy after those hot days and was a beautiful oasis away from the busy tourist trap.
The room we stayed in was fairly small with a sloped in roof, but the staff is very friendly. It's a much more personal experience than a usual hotel stay -- the owners like to talk with the guests, and one served us breakfast for several days. The bed was extremely comfortable and had skylights above it. The building itself -- a Victorian era house -- is full of interesting pictures and a common room with complimentary cookies, wine, and other drinks. I didn't get a chance to try out the spa, though I was tempted. Overall, definitely an experience I'd recommend trying.
I loved the privacy and comfort of my room at the Jackson House. It's a beautiful home away from home. I loved the old fashioned romantic feel of the house that was displayed in every last detail. The breakfasts were superb. I'm not usually a breakfast person, but when the meals are home-cooked to perfection in the adjoining kitchen, I found myself looking forward to each breakfast and the wonderful culinary experience. The bed and breakfasts are located in a sleepy, historic neighborhood that would make you think you're miles from downtown San Antonio. But, in fact, it was a short 10-15 minute walk to the Convention Center, which was perfect for the convention I attended. Staff were kind, understanding, and eager to make each persons stay exceptional. I don't know that I can say enough about how much I enjoyed my stay except that it was perfect and I am definitely looking forward to an opportunity to stay at a Noble Inn again very soon. I highly recommend everyone stay at one of the Noble Inns if you ever have the opportunity.
