Excellent gym! We had a nice lesson from a video and instructor on how to set up for 2 adults, our 4 yo and 2yo. Everyone did great and had a lot of fun. Also has someone come around for coaching. We’ll be getting a family membership!
I visited Phoenix Rock Gym in Tempe and had a fantastic time climbing. The facility features tall walls (30 ft or more) with many routes for top-rope and lead climbers, making it both challenging and fun. My orientation was smooth, equipment rental was straightforward, and the staff were helpful without being overbearing. The community vibe is strong, really felt like a place to hang out and climb, not just a gym. If you’re looking for a climbing place near Phoenix where you can get a good workout and meet other climbers, Phoenix Rock Gym is definitely worth checking out.
One of my absolute favorite spots to go defy gravity and pretend I’m more spider than man. They’ve got it all, straight-up climbs, inverted walls that make you question your life choices halfway up, funky angled routes, and enough color-coded holds to keep your brain working as hard as your arms. Bouldering, rope climbing, lead climbing, even a pull-up bar so you can flex on your rest breaks or cry in between sets. Prices bumped up a bit recently, but let’s be honest, so did eggs, rent, and the cost of breathing. It’s still only twenty bucks to climb until your arms fall off, and that’s a steal these days. Rentals are extra, but not insultingly so. Staff? Chill and friendly, like the kind of people who can spot you mid-fall and recommend the best flavor of ice cream bar after. Oh yeah, they’ve got snacks and drinks too, because you’re gonna earn ‘em. Solid vibe, killer routes, and just a great spot to get a workout in without having to fake liking the treadmill.
It was our first visit because my daughter said she wanted to try climbing. The facility was really large and had many climbing zones with various levels of difficulty. The indoor space was full of people climbing, and it looked really cool. The staff gave us detailed explanations and even taught us how to tie knots and handle the ropes throughout, which was very helpful. My daughter said climbing was fun and wants to come often. It's actually more tiring for the parent holding the rope at the bottom than for the one climbing, though!
The Phoenix Rock Gym is a Tempe-based business that I visited, with a large group, for a youth program in January 2025. While the business itself looked to be organized and taken care of, and while the youth (ages 13-18) who joined us enjoyed their time here, I was most impressed with the amazing staff. The staff were very professional, and so helpful to everyone (beginners and experts) that visited. With staff who exhibit such professionalism, and are so helpful, this is a place i'd gladly visit again; and it's undeniably a place that I would bring groups to (regardless of their previous experience with wall climbing).
