I got some of their bulk ($95/cubic m) "organic " garden soil recently for topping up my organic vegetable garden. The amount of plastic, glass and metal in it was terrible, I wish I took a picture of it all, and I can only imagine how much micro plastic is in it. So, it's actually the opposite of organic. I welcome a response from them, to explain this. Now, I have to dig it all back out, get rid of it, and buy more. Also, the women who served me was totally rude, abrupt and unfriendly. I really wonder why she's in customer service?
What a sweet cafe and wonderful nursery to explore. We’ve been several times with little kids and felt very welcomed at the cafe, the food is lovely. I was very impressed when I went to buy a rose and talked to one of the staff, I was concerned that it didn’t look super healthy. She could have easily dismissed my concerns (it was literally scanned and almost paid for). Instead she apologised for it and said that with all the rain the roses have a lot of black spot, but then went to help me choose a good one. She really took her time. I can’t say it’s always easy to find staff in the nursery to help but they are superb. My favourite nursery!
If I would leave a negative star I would. Never in my life did my husband and I receive the worst customer service experience like we did yesterday. I haven't walked into Poppies in years and yesterday we were hunting for a specific ornamental tree plant and had gone to nearly every nursery in Newcastle but left Poppies last as it was on our way home. We turned up 10 minutes to 4pm at their doorstep and looking like we were the only customers with the carpark empty we still wanted a quick look in. As we were browsing a man turned up surprised we were there and made a comment they were closing like right now and was unwilling to assist my husband made a joking remark about them wanting an early knockoff. We just wanted to see if the plant was there and if it was we would come back. As we passed the entry door of the actual building to leave because we felt unwanted a lady staff shouted out loud, and made it very clear for us to hear, went along the lines of 'bloody hell we are shutting....' and carried in a tanget it was clear she was very angry we turned up. Her comment was absolutely outrageous! We didn't want to confront her because we did not want to spoil our afternoon even though it was already sour. But Im sure management will see this post. We had not long left Charlestown Garden Centre and the reception we received there was completely the opposite to what we received here. Never again will I step into Poppies and will happily pass on my opinion of the place to anyone one I know who will step into that place. If you want good service get rid of the female staff who was working there yesterday afternoon. I don't care if she had a bad day she should not be working in customer service and neither should that guy. Todays age social media can be extremelly damaging to the reputation of a business so if you want to stay competitive you need to improve your work culture because its obvious to me your staffs attitude to their work is very transparent on the customers and reflects on the whole image of the business.
Friendly service and atmosphere Meals are more traditional cafe style Coffee was good Such a beautiful place 🪴 ❤️
What a gorgeous cafe! I don’t know many cafes that come with a chandelier! The meal was lovely - we shared an eggs Benedict and the chef was so kind to make one egg soft and one egg hard (thank you for being so accommodating at a busy time!). The wait staff were very friendly and efficient. It was a lovely place to eat and a gorgeous nursery to browse and shop in afterwards. Update - went back for a birthday lunch - SO good! The chefs know their stuff and the wait staff are friendly and helpful. So many gorgeous touches.
