Definitely get a second opinion after these guys give you a quote. We have only lived in our house about five years and we were having issues with our AC unit not turning on. They sent a technician out and the guy basically told me that we had to replace our entire HVAC unit which was going to cost $5000. They told me that the HVAC unit that we had was a cheap bottom of the barrel unit that didn’t have a great lifespan. I went on Google only to find that this unit is absolute top of the line one of the best ones money could buy and even has a 10 year warranty. There is absolutely no way that we would have to have to replace this whole entire unit. I called another company and they sent the guy out and he told me he could fix the problem in 30 minutes. He went in and added more refrigerant to our HVAC line and it has worked perfectly now well over a year later and he charged me 275$ We had done a lot of business with this company before, and it is a shame that they turned around and turned out to be low integrity and try to turn a low cost, low labor job into a $5000 replacement. Either this technician did NOT know his HVAC units well or he was straight up lying to my face calling our top of the line unit a cheapo model. In fact, the very first thing that the other technician noticed about our HVAC was that it was a well-known and known to be high quality, top-of-the-line unit. When I told him about the quote from prodigy saying that it needed to be replaced, he was an utter disbelief that any technician would see this unit and tell us that. This old trick may have worked before Reddit and Google existed, but it doesn’t fly now. Moral of the story go ahead and get a quote from these guys but get a second opinion, especially if they try to hit you with a large job. Posting this review now because times are hard for a lot of people and I hope that this saves someone from paying too much for an unnecessary repair or replacement.
My water heater went out unannounced. Prodigy was my first call and they had me scheduled for a new install within 30 minutes. Their technicians were knowledgeable and friendly. They explained how the new system worked and how to properly maintain it. They left the job site clean. I would definitely hire them again
They are not BBB accredited company!!! I chose this company because of the many positive reviews, but unfortunately I should have paid more attention to the negative ones. I called them because my shower pressure was extremely low—the showerhead was barely dripping. I was told the shower valve needed to be replaced and that the job would take 1–2 days because they would need to access it from outside and open the side panel of my house. Once they opened the wall, they told me the wood was too old to close it back up. They deducted $300 for that, which I appreciated, but this left me with an open side panel that I now need to hire a contractor to repair. After replacing the valve, they tested the shower—and nothing changed. The water pressure was exactly the same. Then a younger plumber simply replaced the showerhead, and suddenly everything worked perfectly. This made it very clear that the valve replacement and opening the house were completely unnecessary and that the issue could have been solved by replacing the showerhead from the start. The entire job took about 4 hours, not the 1–2 days I was quoted. I was charged $3,600, and now I also have additional costs to fix the exterior of my house. I asked for a discount because I strongly believe I was charged for work that did not need to be done. The manager, Rick, was rude, impatient, and unwilling to work with me. He kept insisting the valve was the problem but could not explain why the issue remained after the valve replacement and was only fixed once the showerhead was replaced. This was an extremely frustrating and disappointing experience. I do not feel the work was properly diagnosed, fairly priced, or professionally handled.
Prodigy lost a star this time. Needed more plumbing work done on my home due to the discovery of some cheap jerry rigged piping done by the previous owners. Having used Prodigy before and being impressed with their work, I didn't hesitate to hit them up first. That said, we needed to replace some old galvanized pipes to copper. The original inspection and estimate were done cordially and professionally. The work done was great and solid. Again, they were respectful of the house, to me, my wife, and my kid. Putting down tarps and wearing booties to protect my flooring and such. The only reason they lose a start this time around was due to horrendous communication. After the estimate was signed, I was cancelled on twice and had a no show on one day. And one cancellation and the no show happened when there was unfinished work from the previous day. It was only after my constant calling and prodding -- being told I would receive a callback only for it to never come -- that at the end of the day, a field manager finally got back to me and personally gave me an ETA of when the work would be completed. Again, the work was great. Where Prodigy dropped the ball (hard) was when it came to communicating with me.
We hired Prodigy back in April to install two AC units with linear registers, and to this day, the project remains incomplete. Despite multiple attempts to get in touch—including calls, texts, and emails to their managers, Joseph and Chris—we have received no response. The lack of communication and accountability is extremely frustrating and reflects poorly on their business. At this point, I would be very hesitant to work with Prodigy again or recommend them to anyone.
