We’ve been working with Warren Sears from Shelby Semel Dog Training for several months, and it’s been such a great experience from the start. When we first reached out, our dog was struggling with excitement around guests, table manners, and reacting to sounds or animals on TV. Warren took the time to really understand what was going on and came up with a clear, realistic plan for us to follow. What stands out most is how knowledgeable and patient he is. He never rushes through sessions, and he explains the “why” behind every exercise so we understand what we’re teaching and how it helps. After each lesson, he sends detailed notes and step-by-step guides that are so easy to follow. It’s obvious that he puts a lot of thought into his work and truly cares about setting dogs (and their people!) up for success. Since starting training, we’ve seen such a big difference. Our dog is calmer, more focused, and handles new situations with a lot more confidence. Even in moments that used to feel stressful, we now know how to respond and help him settle. Warren’s guidance has made a huge impact on our daily life, and we actually enjoy training now because we can see it working. We greatly needed help leash training our puppy and calming down his reactivity to other animals. We filled out the form on the website and were matched with Warren, and it's been nothing short of fantastic! We sprang for a 1-on-1 training package for our puppy and did five sessions, one every week. The training was very tailored to our specific needs, and Warren provided us with many resources after each session, including a summary of everything we worked on and how to carry the training forward. He was also very communicative and flexible with our busy schedules. As far as price goes, the value is determined by how much time you dedicate to training between training sessions. We made sure to work on all of the training Warren was giving us so we could progress forward and cover more behaviors. For our puppy, it has been well worth the expense. Within the last few weeks, friends and neighbors who met our puppy before training have commented on how much better behaved he is, and how much calmer and receptive to instruction he seems. Before training, about 90% of my walks with the pup were either him pulling me or me pulling him, with only 10% in that perfect loose-leash, easy-pace walking. Now, it's totally flipped — about 90% of our walks are with a loose leash, and the rest of the time we have the tools we need to break him away from distractions if he happens to pull. So as far as value goes, we've found it was worth every penny! I highly recommend Shelby Semel Dog Training for its ability to match your needs with a trainer. If you specifically need leash/reactivity training, you can also request Warren specifically on their form. BUT keep in mind: you get out of it what you put in! The trainer is also training YOU, not just your dog. The more you practice everything they cover in your sessions, the more bang you'll get for your buck, and the faster your pup will show true growth and improvement.

Sabrina has been with us since the second week of bringing home our beloved golden retriever puppy in September 2024, guiding us through every stage of his development. Sabrina's ability to tailor training approaches to match the unique personality of our dog is nothing short of impressive, and she has a true gift for training. Sabrina is exceptionally responsive to any questions or concerns we have, no matter how small or silly they may seem, and we've always felt supported and confident in her guidance. Our pup absolutely adores her, and it's easy to see why--Sabrina connects with dogs on such a deep level. We also can't recommend their puppy and adolescent play classes enough! These classes have been a game-changer for our social golden retriever. He thrives in the structured and safe environment, eagerly meeting new dogs and developing his social skills.
