I am so glad that I booked SM Hair + Makeup for my wedding! Sarah and Isabel did an incredible job on our hair and makeup and we all felt so beautiful for the wedding. They worked magic at the trial run and were so kind and helpful when I had last minute requests leading up to the wedding. My 5 year old flower girl saw us all getting ready and insisted on getting her hair done too and Isabel found the time to make it happen, even finishing early. Sarah and Isabel are truly skilled and so lovely to work with, they exceeded all my expectations and I am so glad that they were with me on my wedding day.

As a person who never wears make-up and seldom does her hair, I felt so beautiful and comfortable on my wedding day! I had an idea of what I wanted, and the artists Sarah and Isabel ran with it and truly made me feel so ethereal. From the trial (which I was late to due to weather and a parade blocking the street, the artists were so understanding and ended up staying late with me that night!) to the day of the wedding, these ladies were true professionals. My make-up artist Sarah walked me through the options of lashes available to me and was willing to try different things to ensure I was comfortable. Prices were reasonable for the service; I greatly appreciated the transparency of cost (prices available on their website, and this was one of the only places in the area that did not include an auto-gratuity which was what sold me). I had an intimate wedding with only 3 people getting make-up done and 5 people for hair; there wasn't a minimum needed for services which was also a large factor in my decision to book them. The day of the wedding our artists were efficient and kind; the energy was very relaxed which I really liked. Overall I would highly recommend their services!

I was so happy with how both my hair and makeup turned out with SM Hair and Makeup! Their pricing felt very fair compared to the Minneapolis market, and the stylists were on time and attentive to what each of my bridesmaids wanted—I didn’t hear a single complaint from anyone. Isabel (hair) was efficient, flexible, and made adjustments with a smile, and Sarah (makeup) did an incredible job with so much attention to detail. A couple of small things to note: the stylists were very quiet—I would have loved a little more energy and excitement on the wedding morning. Sarah’s perfectionism was amazing, but her services took closer to an hour each instead of the 45 minutes we were told, which impacted the timeline slightly, so make sure to add in that extra time when scheduling. Also, communication before the wedding was a bit tricky—I had to follow up a few times to get the final invoice and confirm details. That said, I’m overall so glad I chose SM Hair and Makeup. My wedding look turned out beautifully, my bridesmaids were happy, and I’d definitely recommend them—with just a heads-up about timing and communication.

To say the hair and makeup that was done by my stylist and makeup artist was good, would be an understatement. Every part of the process was easy and executed well. They were able to give me exactly what I asked and were extremely flexible. We were able to fit in bridesmaids and I in between each other at the wedding and they worked with us all so well. My hair and makeup turned out so wonderfully I felt like a princess. Not only that, they made my bridesmaids look so beautiful. Their service was impeccable and they made my wedding perfect, from the planning, to the day of. Thank you SM Beauty!!!!!!!!!!

I had an incredible experience with my makeup artist (Amy) and hair stylist (Sarah). From my initial consultation to the day of my wedding they were a pleasure to work with and did an awesome job. It was also a very collaborative process which I appreciated. I made some changes after the initial consult and they both delivered on the day of, completely nailing my vision. I didn’t have a wedding party but my mom and sister did hair/makeup as well and were thrilled with their looks. I looked exactly the way I wanted to and thoroughly enjoyed talking with both of them. A win-win!

There are a couple of reasons why I would not recommend SM Hair & Makeup to other brides in the future. None of which are in regard to the actual hair and makeup which were done by the artists, everyone did beautiful work and all of my girls looked beautiful. Despite this, I would not recommend them. My lead makeup artist was Autumn, she called me at the time of our intended makeup trial stating she would now be an hour late, so I had to wait around for an hour as I was already onsite. Autumn was also quite sick while performing my makeup trial so having her touch my face in-between blowing her nose was uncomfortable to say the least. The owner, Stephanie Martin, and I had minimal contact, which was fine except for the odd system she uses for scheduling. You only have the opportunity to arrange a hair & makeup trial after making a deposit to use them regardless of how the trial goes. Also, the trial is only allowed to be scheduled 8-10 weeks prior to the wedding, leaving no time for another trial if needed or desired. I had my second hair stylist switched from one stylist (Alyssa) to another stylist (Chelsy) without notification, I only happened to notice the change in name on my contract myself. On the day of the wedding, one of the stylists said to me “Did Stephanie tell you that Chelsy is going to be an hour late?”, which is how I found out that Chelsy would be an hour late. Isabel was my lead hair stylist, and while she was absolutely wonderful and did my hair perfectly at the trial, she did seem to struggle to recreate my hair at the wedding which resulted in my timeline running late and some photos that were important to me had to be cut. Autumn, my makeup artist, wore all white clothing to the wedding venue to do everyone’s makeup (which while not a huge deal, it was a bit surprising that she and I were both in all white while getting ready). It was more unpleasant to me that while doing my makeup on my wedding day, Autumn was mostly complaining about her job and not wanting to do makeup anymore because it doesn’t pay enough etc. It made me feel awkward and like a burden for having her do my makeup, while I should have felt special and pampered on the morning of my wedding day. All in all, the work which was done all turned out beautifully. Everyone’s hair and makeup looked great. But considering the experience I had, I certainly would not recommend SM Hair & Makeup to other brides in the future.
