Visited SCAG back in September during a Manchester manifest block party and was warmly welcomed. The artist on exhibit at the time was Rama Alfarekh with some truly stunning art. The gallery is definitely a place I plan to visit again. Add it to your itinerary for your next trip to RVA.
A Hidden Gem of Creativity and Culture I recently had the pleasure of visiting SCAG a Black-owned art space that celebrates creativity, heritage, and community. From the moment I stepped through the doors, I was welcomed with warmth and an atmosphere alive with artistic expression. The gallery beautifully showcases a mix of established and emerging artists, each piece telling a story—some bold and defiant, others tender and introspective. The curation is thoughtful and intentional, weaving together themes of identity, resilience, and innovation. Whether you’re a seasoned art enthusiast or simply someone looking to connect with meaningful work, there’s something here that will resonate deeply. Beyond the art, what truly sets SCAG apart is its commitment to uplifting the community. Through events, workshops, and conversations, this gallery feels like more than just a space—it’s a movement. It’s a place to celebrate Black voices, foster connection, and leave inspired. If you’re looking to support Black artists and experience art that challenges, heals, and empowers, this gallery is an absolute must-visit. It’s not just a gallery—it’s a testament to the transformative power of art and culture.
Amazing art gallery on historic Hull St. in the Manchester/Blackwell neighborhood…I attended the opening night of their current exhibit and was thoroughly impressed by the artwork and artist. The ambiance of the gallery was great with good music and vibes . I also enjoyed speaking to the curator, his knowledge and distinct eye for seeing art in everyday life is inspiring. I will definitely be back!
SCAG is the very first art museum where I know I can pull up and ALWAYS find pieces of myself in the art on display. Rosetta has truly brought something invaluable and irreplaceable to Southside Richmond. To have grown up here and see how he’s turned forgotten and abandoned spaces into these vibrant experiences for the people here is nothing short of phenomenal. I’ll be a patron for life and I can’t wait to immerse my daughter in the beauty that lives and grows here as well!
