Just had to change the star status from 4 to 5 because usually everybody is very friendly. I don't have to go there only because they're in the surrounding neighborhood of to my house. I choose to drive a little bit further for the hospitality and selection and so keep that in mind.
Disappointing Experience - Poor Service & Unprofessional Behavior I recently had a frustrating experience at this store that left me questioning both their customer service and internal procedures. First, I noticed that Houston corporate had decided to eliminate a large selection of international items and had re-merchandised the food sections, making it harder to find what I needed. But the real issue came at the checkout. The same cashier, a woman with long hair and glasses, seemed to have no concept of pricing accuracy. I purchased 10 items, but when the cashier rang me up, she charged me for 16 items instead—overcharging for several products that were clearly marked at much lower prices. It was only when I walked back to my car and checked the receipt that I realized I had been overcharged by quite a bit. I went back into the store to address the issue with the same cashier. When I calmly explained the error, her response was utterly unprofessional. She told me, “I don’t like your attitude and do not have to deal with this,” then walked away from the register and disappeared into the backroom, leaving me standing there with no resolution. To top it off, the older manager on duty had no idea how to handle the situation. His lack of awareness only added to the disappointment. And if you're planning to buy food items, make sure you bring your driver’s license—apparently, they will not sell you any food unless you provide proof of ID, even if you have no alcohol or beer in your cart. All in all, this was a completely frustrating experience. Poor customer service, overpriced items, and an inability to resolve issues left me questioning whether I want to return to this location at all. There’s clearly a need for better training, more accountability, and an overall overhaul of their policies if they want to retain customers. Updated Note, rated down: October 19, 2023 Items on the shelf like the Breitsamer forest honey bottle has a huge card advertising $8 but the receipt was over $10 for the bottle. Keep track of your purchases when rung up. The same cashier rang me up, also had to credit me back thanks to the gross negligence of overcharging me last year for Cookie Marzipan loafs (that the previous cashier did not know how to count to 10) and rang up more than I purchased and put in the plastic bag. TIP: Bring your driver's license because the young guy replacing the light bulbs in their parking lot for the city was turned away when he tried to ring up a sandwich. You must be over 21 to buy food or snacks according to their rules and he wasn't driving the city truck. I also had to come back with my driver's license because the $160 worth of food items (no liquor) was refused to purchase without it.
I love going to SPECS in El Paso, the best in the West mainly because of the kind, savy and super helpful manager Troy Wyatt! Troy has a 40 year history in the beverage market her in El Paso- Juarez- Chihuahua City region and has extensive knowledge about all wines but especially the deep dry French, Italian and Napa wine that my wife Joyce Feinberg and I so enjoy. As a former State Senator and she, as a former award winning Director of the SunBowl , we have many wine aficionado pals who we send to see Troy. Troy supplies the best fine dining restaurants in the region and is very well regarded by all his customers. So to all of you out there-- enjoy life-- go to Troy! Eliot Shapleigh El Paso, Texas 2025
Walked in on a random Friday and decided to ask if they had any new whiskey. Iris was happy to talk whiskey with me, made some excellent recommendations, showed me some very nice bottles, and sold me a couple of excellent single barrel whiskey bottles. Iris was friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful. Will shop this Specs again.
Great place. Every staff member I saw stopped what they were doing to greet me and offer any type of assistance. The store had a great selection. They appeared to have almost anything you are looking for. Including coffee and food. I am definitely making this the store I go to for things I need.
