I do not normally give a review unless I really am unhappy or extremely satisfied with a person, place, product, etc. I have attended many different classes at Spokane Art School. I just attended a two day workshop working with pastels. I have had zero experience working with this medium. The instructor was very kind and patient. As this was a beginning pastel class every student needed different levels of instruction, she is amazing at knowing how to relieve the pressure and help make the class fun and relaxing as well as educational. I sure hope that more classes will be offered. I enjoyed making new acquaintances and learning about pastels. Thank you T.
Signed up for a mixed media art class in July, showed up today to find it had been canceled. I didn't get any notification about this, so I arranged my schedule around it, took the time (and $/resources) to travel there, etc. Very unprofessional. (and, yes, I did search my junk email, etc.)
Don’t take a class here, especially if you are a beginner or new to a medium. Instructor was disorganized, didn’t demonstrate or explain anything, was frequently unable to answer questions about techniques or materials, and repeatedly yelled at students during the class. After completing the whole workshop series, I didn’t know anything more about the medium than I had when I started. I have no desire to ever go back to such a negative, hostile environment. If you are considering starting art classes, I strongly encourage you to go somewhere else.
So fun!! They had a community art wall going with paper, pastels, paint brushes and solvent to create interesting pieces of art. The instructor was super helpful and sweet. If was a fun random surprise for us.
A very bad experience. In the opening moments of the first lesson, the instructor asked " who has not had any painting experience?" My daughter, myself and another student raised our hands. His comment was "I don't know how well this is going to go for you". This comment would have been reasonable if in the class syllabus this was noted. It was not, furthermore the class was described as beginning to intermediate. Very little actual instruction took place, and the instructor maintained an abrasive and sometimes unprofessional attitude. A good example of this would be when he glanced at my painting and commented "are those trees or flowers?" This childish, ill formed critique was not in any way conducive to a positive learning experience. For this reason, and several more I quit the course shortly after. My daughter, having the same opinion quit as well. Which is really too bad, the course and supplies were quite expensive. My advice to anyone seeking art lessons would be to look elsewhere.

Unleash your creativity with expert-led art classes in a welcoming community environment.
