After having a sewing machine for years that I didn't know how to use, I finally took a class (Machine Sewing 1) and I am so glad I did! Lisa was patient, explained all the basics, and answered all my questions. I left the class with the confidence boost I needed to use the machine on my own :)

Lisa and the Top Stitch crew are simply the best. The visible mends I've gotten have added to the beauty of my garments — invariably resulting in compliments when I wear them. I have been so pleased with the "regular" mends, too, including repairs to a generations-old afghan made and passed down by generations of women in my family. Lisa's also been able to repair garments that have been declined by the alterations department of my dry cleaner. So grateful RVA has a small biz that keeps otherwise good garments wearable and out of the landfill!

Top Stitch has been great for me as a new sewist to learn basic skills and machine care. It has made me more confident in what I'm doing and I also am comfortable recognizing and fixing basic concerns with my machine. I look forward to completing more classes in the future.

I took the Mend Your To-Do Pile lesson at Top Stitch and I loved it! Lisa is very personable and I appreciated how she offered her expertise but also shaped the class around what I wanted to learn. I'm new to sewing and in a relatively short amount of time, she taught me multiple techniques (hand sewing and machine), I was able to mend two garments of clothing, and I have the knowledge to mend several more. I'd love to take another class here!

I've been wanting to learn to sew and mend my clothes for years, but figuring out how to use a sewing machine was extremely daunting to me. I'd actually bought a machine and had it sitting in my house unused for nearly a year. I took an intro to machine sewing class here and it was EXACTLY what I needed in order to feel comfortable getting to know my machine and starting my sewing journey. The pace of the class was perfect, the notes sent afterwards are so helpful, and getting 1:1 guidance with my personal machine and all of its quirks was really helpful. Beyond the class itself, I love the welcoming vibe and sustainable ethos of Top Stitch. We're so lucky to have a resource like this in RVA!
